Hansen tops MHR Late Model Special!
By Janis Weigel

August 30, 1999; Unity, WI. - Twenty-two Late Models arrived at MHR for the first time Monday night, traveling distances from as far away as Thunder Bay, Ontario and Hamlake,
MN.

Forty laps held in the Feature race, (Sponsored by Dale White - White City Glass of Eau Claire) didn't take these drivers long to complete their thrilling, fast paced, full throttle race.

Area fans are familiar with the #25 Late Model Feature winner Kerry Hansen of Spencer who
led the race with a pole position start and cruised for the victory, never looking back.   Kerry started his racing career in the Hobby Stock division in the late 1970's.   Two years later he stepped up into the Late Models racing at Marshfield and Colby dirt tracks throughout the 1980s and early 1990s.

He has won many races throughout those years, and continues to race in the Hav-A-Tampa Series held at many different locations.Kerrys car is sponsored by Seubert Calf Ranches, Classic Travel and Hansen Motorsports.

Another local racer, Robby Bunkelman of Abbotsford was also among the high powered drivers with his #00 Late Model machine.  An area favorite, Robby has had much success in the Super Stock division in the past years, and for the last few years has been driving in the Modified division as well.

#27 Jerry Redetzeke - Eau Claire ( formerly of Unity ) and #93 Eric Pember of Pittsville, who is also know for his success in the Modified division in the area were also in attendance.  Running in the third spot for the first twenty laps, Pember moved past Pat Doar of New Richmond, coming through the corners lifting his race car with only two tires touching the surface.  Doar challenged hard for his spot back, and with four laps remaining, moved past Pember to finish in second. #15 Jon Kurshinsky finished 4th, #51 Joel Cryderman 5th and Redetzke in sixth.

Super Stock and Street Stock classes were held during the Late Model Show. #10 Rich Bishop of Ladysmith was the winner of the Super Stock Feature. #40 Kevin Adams of Cameron grabbed the the Street Stock Feature win. Look for Chris Stepans' detailed article on this event at this website or
catch it in next weeks issue of "All The Dirt".
