Schilling Mod frontrunner, Lieders best in Supers at MHR!
By Janis Weigel

June 11, 1999; Unity, WI. - Friday nights races were sponsored by Hardees. Next weeks sponsor will be WDLB- WOSQ.

Brad Seehafer (#3) had the honor of carrying the American flag during opening ceremonies for tonight's event.  That honor is given to the previous week's feature winner, and Seehafer won the WISSOTA Modified main that ran as part of the IRA Sprint Special last week. 61199c.jpg (13599 bytes)

The Super Stocks started their feature race with a first lap caution, when Mark Rogers and Scott Geiger got tangled up with each other. With pole position, Paul Lieders led the pack at the restart. Lonnie Leu, with a third row start, jumped into second and began to put the heat on Lieders. Lieders did a great job holding his own, down low on the track, with Leu trying to stick his nose underneath him each lap around. In the eleventh lap, Leu dived inside once again side by side, causing the two cars to become hooked together. Lieders car came loose, spinning into the infield. Leu was forced to end his night of racing with a busted A-frame. With nine laps remaining, Lieders held the lead and grabbed his second feature win, Lance Leu 2nd, Scott Johnson 3rd, Randy Spacek 4th and Ken Truscott in 5th

The Street Stocks looked as though they were in a battlefield Friday night. In the first lap, a wheel came bouncing down the track off Chris Lindners #41 car, ending his night of, racing. In the lead, Ryan Lindner looked strong until two laps later when his #17 car overheated when his water pump belt broke, forcing him to end a good night of racing. #35x Ivan Simmerman was the man with the lead at the restart, also looking strong with a couple car lengths lead. Disaster would strike once again, when Simmerman dropped a valve in the seventh lap, causing his motor to blow apart, leaving behind a thick haze of antifreeze.

Rod Herman (#71) earned his first feature victory flag of the 1999 racing season by taking the win in the WISSOTA Street Stock main event.

Rod Herman, who had moved into second in the fourth lap took over the lead. With a sixth row start, #40 Kevin Adams had moved into second and pressured Herman until the end. Herman held Adams off to take an exciting, well deserved, first time Feature win at MHR. Adams 2nd, #13 Cory Davis making his first appearance at MHR was 3rd, Steven Surprenant 4th and #8 Todd Heier, also his first appearance at the track this year came in 5th.

61199a.jpg (15873 bytes) Luke Schilling (#43) recorded his first feature win of the season at MHR win the WISSOTA Modified division.  Schilling had earlier also finished in second place in his heat race.

Ending the evenings night of racing, the Modifieds held a solid, well run 20-lap race with only a couple of cautions. #43 Luke Schilling grabbed the lead, with Jeff Spacek and Scott Duval in the 2nd and 3rd spots. Last Sunday nights Feature winner, Brad Seehafers car was hit with mechanical problems in the seventh lap, forcing him to head for the pits ending his night of racing.

In the eighth lap, Bob Richardson drifted high, pushing into Kevin Rogers. Jerry Weigel trying to avoid both cars, but unable to stop, suffered a fiat tire when hitting Rogers. Both Rogers and Richardson ended their night of racing, pulling into the pits. Tagging onto the back of the field after a quick tire change and moderate front end damage, Weigel tried to continue, but was forced to pull his car into the infield, one lap later with transmission problems.

Meanwhile, Steve Isenberg who had a fifth row start, overpowered Duval on lap eleven for third. Schilling, who has been having a good race season this year, held a strong lead from start to finish, to take his first feature win at MHR. Spacek was second, Isenberg third, Duval fourth and Troy Kuyoth who started in the sixth row rounded out the top five.
