MHR Opens 2000 season with exciting racing action!
By Janis Weigel

April 29, 2000; Unity, WI. - Despite the bone-chilling temperatures and strong winds, a large crowd was in attendance for the 2000 Season Opener at MHR, Inc. Friday night, sponsored
by WOFM 94.7.

Mike Bauer set the pace in the WISSOTA Super Stock Feature, grabbing the early lead with
a pole position start.  Lonnie Leu and Paul Lieders battled close behind, edging beside and behind Bauerfighting hard for an opportunity to take the lead.  Paul Erikson and Eric Bolosky filled the fourth and fifth spots.

With ten laps completed a caution due to debris on the track tightened up the cars in a single file restart.  Lieders quickly manuevered his #57 car high in corner one, passing Bauer for the lead.  Leu applied constant pressure on Bauer each lap around, and was able to edge his way past for second with five laps remaining.

Holding a strong lead, Lieders was back where he left off last season, crossing the finish line for the win.Leu 2nd, Bauer 3rd, Erikson 4th and Bolosky 5th.

A caution flew before a lap was completed in the WISSOTA Street Stock Feature.  A call made on
Kevin Adams, found him leaving the track for a quick tire change and tagging onto the back for the restart. Coming through corner three, Adams spun and was waved off the track with two cautions.

42900f.jpg (8046 bytes) A meeting!  Steve Suprenant (#6) and Dave Teatz (#36) got crossed up in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature race.

Unable to defend his 99' Track Championship on the opening night had to be a big disappointment, but he will be back, looking strong next week. Steve Surprenant held the lead, followed by Kirk Bogdanovic, Chris Oertel and Dave Teatz.  Oertel had his car dialed in well as he moved past Bogdanovic in lap three for second, and passing Surprenant for the lead in lap four.  With a fourth and  fifth row start, Chris Lindner, Rod Herman and Stan Rychlock were steadily moving up throughout the race.

A good way to start the year! Chris Oertel (#51) mad his way to the winner's circle after topping the WISSOTA Street Stock main event on opening night. 42900c.jpg (12594 bytes)

A  caution in the ninth lap was called on Teatz, after getting tangled up with Surprenant.  Surprenant  was pulled off the track into the pits unable to return.  Holding off Bogdanovic for the final laps, Oertel  grabbed his first feature win at MHR, Bogdanovic 2nd, Lindner 3rd, Rychlock  4th and Herman 5th.

Jeff Spacek (#22) won several WISSOTA Modified main events last year at MHR and picked up his first win this year already.

With one lap complete in the WISSOTA Modified Feature, a caution came out  after Rick Przybylski and Bob Root got tangled up, causing a chain reaction of cars behind bumping into each other. Both were forced to leave the track and several others with damage to their cars, including Tim Isenberg, Jerry Weigel and Ray Karl. Root and Karl were able to make it back onto the track for the restart.

Steve Isenberg held Scott Duval off for the lead in the first three laps, but Duval coming on strong, took over the lead in lap four. Running in third was Luke Schilling and Butch Oertel in fourth. After
five laps were completed, with a fifth row start, Troy Kuyoth had powered his way into second and Jeff Spacek with a seventh row start was moving past cars steadily to position himself in fourth.

Wheel to wheel action!  Steve Isenberg (#9) runs wheel to wheel with Luke Schilling during the WISSOTA Modified main event, while Jed Moore (#33) chases the pair. 42900e.jpg (8174 bytes)

By the time a  caution came out in the tenth lap the top five racers were already moving into lap traffic. Spacek used the restart to his advantage manuevering his #22 car past Kuyoth for second and put the heat on Duval, taking over the lead   in lap twelve. The remaining eight laps were fast paced to the finish, where once again the front runners found  themselves in lap traffic. Jeff Spacek grabbed the win, Duval 2nd, Kuyoth 3rd, Schilling 4th and Oertel  in 5th.

The first ever winner!  Mickey Nosser (#34) became the first ever winner of an "A-Modified" feature at MHR.   The new class is known as the "Affordable Modified" and track officials look for the class to grow during the upcoming season. 42900a.jpg (13488 bytes)

A caution free race was held in the A-Mod Feature, a new class at MHR.   With alot of interest being shown, it looks to be a solid class that will grow in car counts throughout  the season. Mickey Nosser led the way to take the first feature win, Scott Anderson 2nd and Rob Genett in third.
