A romantic evening at the raceway? In addition to some great racing action MHR hosted it's first on track wedding between Jim Stacy and Mary Steckbauer.

July 21, 2000; Unity, WI. - The dirt track at MHR not only holds great racing action every week, it also was the setting for a wedding ceremony last Friday night as Jim Strey and Mary Steckbauer ( sister of Mod driver, Butch Steckbauer ) took their vows in front of a large audience of race fans.  This week the annual kids " Race Against Drugs " night was held, sponsored by Auto Value - Bumper to Bumper.

Excitement filled the air as drivers parked their vehicles on the track during intermission for autographs. We would like to thank all of the kids who were involved in the coloring contest, all of the entries weregreat!  Winners were Karl Genett (6), Kyle Kollmansberger (9) and Cody Kaeser (12).  Next weeks races will be sponsored by M&I Central Bank.

Nine laps of non-stop racing action was held in the WISSOTA Super Stock Feature, reaching
the midway point before any cautions were held.  Setting the pace with the lead, Scott Johnson was
followed by Jere Stanton, Paul Erikson, Randy Spacek and Eric Olson.

Scott Johnson (#8) paced the Super Stock action this evening.  Johnson spent the event staying ahead of the many incidents which slowed the race. 72100e.jpg (16255 bytes)

A caution in lap ten tightened up the pack.  Pete Paulus hit the wall in the frontstretch on the restart, involving Mike Bauer, who had been directly behind him.  While the wrecking crew worked on untangling the two cars, Jere Stanton was sent to the pits by track officials as a safety precaution when fuel leaking from his car was detected.

Between cautions there was some great wheel to wheel action in the WISSOTA Super Stock main event.  In the left photo, Paul Leiders (#57) and Paul Erikson (#4) did battle for position, while Terry Gorst (#17) and Mark Stender (#27) also mixed it up for position on the high banked third mile clay oval.

Mechanical failure forced Erikson, who was running in second to drop back, and bring out the first of
three cautions held in lap fourteen.  Stanton got hooked up with Terry Kroening on the restart in the front straightaway. Running in fifth, Eric Bolosky hit the wall hard the next time  around, both Stanton and Bolosky were unable to continue.  As racing resumed, Johnson powered his #8 car into a strong lead to the finish line for an impressive first feature win.  Spacek finished second, Olson third, Lonnie Leu fourth, and Rich Bishop in fifth.

72100a.jpg (15406 bytes) One of the best battles of the evening was this duel between Kirk Bogdanovic (#82) and Kevin Adams (#40) as they fought for supremacy in the WISSOTA Street Stock main event.

The 15 lap WISSOTA Street Stock feature got off to a bad start when Jason Kellner spun out
of control in the front straightway, after getting tapped by Dennis Squires. Steve Surprenant and Larry Dassow got tangled up as they tried to avoid Kellner, coming to rest in the pit exit chute.  Both drivers were unhurt but were unable to continue the race.  Great racing action was  held from the restart to the finish line as leader, Kirk Bogdanovic was followed by Kellner, Brent Mindock, Rod Herman and Chris Oertel.  Mindock used a low inside move in the backstretch, passing Kellner for second in lap three, while Oertel pressured Herman and Kellner in the next couple of laps, taking over the third spot with a high move in lap five. Kevin Adams, who was struck with mechanical failure earlier in his heat race was weaving his way through traffic to position himself in fifth after a back row start.

For the second time this season, Kirk Bogdanovic (#82) topped the competition in the the WISSOTA Street Stock feature. 72100b.jpg (15559 bytes)

Holding the lead,  Bogdanovic began to put a solid distance between himself and Mindock, who was fighting off the advances of a hard charging Oertel. Mindock lost the battle for second to Oertel in lap nine.  Gaining momentum, Adams took over third two laps later, using a low inside move on Mindock in corner three and set his sights on Oertel. As Bogdanovic sailed past the checkered flag for his second feature win of the season, Oertel fought hard but was unable to hold off Adams inside move as they crossed the finish line, placing Adams in second, Oertel third, Mindock fourth and Kellner fifth.

Jeff Spacek (#22) collected the checkered flag this evening in the IMCA Modified main.

Brad Seehafer held the early lead in the WISSOTA Modified Feature, followed by Steve Isenberg,
Jeff Spacek, Scott Duval and Luke Schilling.  An early caution in the second lap, tightened up the race for the restart.  Spacek edged his way past Seehafer for the lead in lap four, followed by Duval in lap five. With a seventh position starting spot and an earlier last lap pass for the win in his heat race, Bob Sammann was coming on strong, pulling in behind Duval for third after five laps of  racing action.

A caution in lap twelve was held due to debris on the track. Sammann used the restart to his advantage, passing Duval in the front straightaway and began to chase down Spacek, who was holding a comfortable lead.  A spinout with four laps remaining set the stage for a wild chase to the finish line.  Spacek was able to hold off Sammanns relentless pressure throughout for the win, Sammann second, Duval third, Hintz fourth and Schilling in fifth.

Pat Zdroik held a dominate lead from start to finish in the twelve lap A-Mod feature.   In second, Craig Lieders held off pressure from Mickey Nosser throughout the race. Nosser lost the third spot in the final lap, after getting loose in a high corner four move.  Zdroik in first, Lieders second, Miller third, Nosser fourth and Rob Genett in fifth.
