2000 Season Track Champions named at MHR!

August 18, 2000; Unity, WI. - Friday nights racing action was sponsored by Baxter Engines Inc. of Eau Claire. With the final night of point races held, the 2000 MHR Track Point Champions were named. ( Super Stock - #57 Paul Lieders ), ( Street Stock - #40 Kevin Adams ), ( Modified - #17 Scott Duval ) and ( A-Mod - #57 Craig Lieders )

This weekend is our Annual Invitational, which will be called the "Dale Sonnentag Memorial Race"
with two full shows held on Friday and Saturday evenings. Hot laps at 7:00, Racing at 8:00 P.M.

Terry Gorst was unable to use the pole position start to his advantage in the WISSOTA Super
Stock feature, leaving the track under a caution when Wayne Dean got tangled up with Jim Willner
before a lap was completed.  Gorst was able to tag onto the rear at the restart.   Randy Spacek used the opening position to grab the lead, followed by Eric Olson, Paul Lieders, Mark Stender and Shawn Huse.

With two laps in, Lance Leu drove hard into the back wall ending his night of racing early.  Position
changes were hard to come by as mostly everyone held their positions throughout the race.   Huse held off Lonnie Lonnie Leu's hot pursuit for fifth until lap fifteen.   Using the high bank in corner one with one lap remaining, Stender shot past Lieders and dived underneath Olson to take over second.  Spacek grabbed the start to finish feature win, Stender second, Lieders third, Leu fourth and Jere Stanton in fifth. A disappointed Olson was unable to finish a good run after discovering a melted piston as the culprit.

With the lead in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, Kevin Adams was followed by Jason Kellner, Dave Teatz, Wayne Dean and Kirk Bogdanovic.  Using the high groove, Bogdanovic moved
past Dean and Teatz, settling into third in the third lap.  A caution waved in lap seven when a broken
tied rod on #6 Steve Surprenants car sent him directly into the back wall. 

In lap ten, Kellner lost his second position after getting loose in corner four.  A strong run to the
finish was held as Bogdanovic came just short of overtaking Adams for the win.  Adams first, Bogdanovic second, Oertel third, Dean fourth and Dave Teatz fifth.

Ron Mahder made his first run of the 2000 season at MHR well worth his time, after grabbing the
early lead in the WISSOTA Modified feature and holding off a strong field throughout the twenty lap event for the feature win. Following directly behind in the was Jerry Weigel, Tim Hintz, Jack Larson and Steve Isenberg.  Isenberg moved past Larson in lap four and raced hard behind  Hintz for four more laps before finding an opening to take over third. 

Scott Duval didn't let a twelvth spot starting position hold him back as he gained five positions by lap five and began a back and forth battle with Troy Kuyoth. By lap thirteen, Duval manuevered his way past Kuyoth and Larson and began a side by side battle with Hintz.  With two laps remaining, Duval used the outside groove, getting past Hintz for fourth in corner four.  Taking his first feature win was Mahder, Weigel second, Isenberg third, Duval fourth and Hintz in fifth.

Rob Genett held the lead in the A-Mod Feature, followed by Scott Anderson and Craig Lieders.
Genett held off Anderson's bumper to bumper nonstop pressure throughout the race until getting loose in corner four with two laps remaining, leaving the opening that Anderson was looking for.  Anderson grabbed the fast paced win, Genett second, Lieders third, Gene Halopka fourth and Tim Miller fifth.
