Great weather, great racing action at MHR!!
By Janis Weigel

May 5, 2000; Unity, WI. - Sunny, warm weather replaced last weeks cold temperatures,
welcoming wall to wall race fans to enjoy an action packed night of racing sponsored by PIZZA HUT at MHR, Inc.

5500a.jpg (14239 bytes) Scott Duval (#17) roared to his first WISSOTA Modified feature win of the 2000 season at MHR.  Duval had started in the sixth row of the main event and charged through the pack to victory!

Misfortune and fortunate was the name of the game in the WISSOTA Super Stock Feature
Friday night at MHR.  Before a lap was completed, a spin out in corner three was the cause for a
massive pile up.  After sifting through the damage Terry Gorst, Lance Leu and Mike Bauers night
of racing action was finished, all of whom were unable to avoid cars that were stopped in front of them.

On a roll!  Paul Lieders (#57) the defending WISSOTA Super Stock champion seems to be in the groove this season as he picked up his second straight feature win on Friday Night. 5500b.jpg (12373 bytes)

With the lead, Paul Erikson, was followed by Paul Lieders, Randy Spacek, Ken Truscott and Lonnie Leu.  Erikson had his hands full, holding off Lieders non-stop pressure lap  after lap.  Leu moved past Truscott for fourth in lap four, and Eric Olson grabbed the fifth position  in the eighth lap.  Running in eighth, Rich Bishop looked to be having car troubles, falling back and  leaving the track in the tenth lap.

Super action! Paul Erickson (#4) does his best to stay ahead of Ken Truscott (#22 -yellow) and Randy Spacek  (#22-blue).

Up front the battle was increasing as Erikson and Lieders were nearly side by side each lap around.
Erikson looked impressive as he shot past the line for the continued lead after each corner four "inside hug" with Lieders.  The misfortune took place in lap thirteen, when it looked as though the two made contact, Lieders pulled back, leaving the door wide open for Spacek to  shoot through for second and Erikson ended up with a flat tire.  In the same lap a spin out in the  back of the pack brought out the yellow flag.

After what had looked to be a thrilling end for a possible  victory, a disappointed Erikson left the track for a quick tire change and checked back in at the back of  the pack. At the restart, a tire bouncing wildly through corner four had come off Spaceks car, ending his short-lived lead and a good chance of his own for the win.  With the lead and five laps left,  Lieders held off Leu's hard charging pace, reeling in his second feature win, Leu 2nd, Olson 3rd, Truscott 4th,  Stender 5th and Erikson with a respectable ninth place finish.

It didn't take long for defending WISSOTA Street Stock champion Kevin "Buzzy" Adams to win his first feature of the 2000 racing season at MHR.

The WISSOTA Street Stock drivers had a difficult time getting their race going as two cautions were held before a lap was completed with an early spin out, and at the   restart, Douglas Valeria struck the back wall hard due to obvious car problems.   A well run race was held after the mishaps, with Rod Herman holding the lead, followed by Ken Heser, Chris Oertel, Steve  Surprenant and Kevin Adams.

Adams made a quick move, using the inside groove in the second lap, to   position himself in third. Herman held off Adams inside pressure until lap five, when Adams grabbed the lead.   Last weeks feature winner, Chris Oertel looked strong as he moved closer behind Herman each lap around the track.  With back bumper to front bumper action, Oertel used the inside line in corner four,  diving under Herman for second, with four laps remaining.  Adams had gained a solid lead to take the win,
Oertel 2nd, Herman 3rd, Chris Linder 4th and Surprenant in 5th.

The WISSOTA Modified Feature was a fast paced, hard run race throughout with Robert
Root holding the lead, followed by Tim Hintz, Butch Oertel, Jeff Spacek and  Luke Schilling.  Hintz put early pressure on Root to take the lead after three laps were completed.  Root, not willing to give up his lead so easily, stuck his nose low inside Hintz in corner four in the next  lap to regain the lead.

With a sixth row start, Scott Duval was making his way through traffic with his well-tuned #17 car at a rapid pace, moving up position by position each lap, placing himself in second with eight laps  completed.  With only one obstacle keeping him for the lead, Duval charged forward to close the gap  between him and Root in lap eleven.  Using the high-wide bank, Duval overtook the lead and never looked  back, grabbing an exciting, well deserved feature win!  Root 2nd, Spacek 3rd, Bunkelman 4th and Troy  Kuyoth in 5th.

He's got it figured out!  Mickey Nosser (#34) has won two straight feature races in the new A-Modified division at MHR.   The cars are a more affordable alternative to the WISSOTA  Modified class. 5500d.jpg (14174 bytes)

Mickey Nosser is on a roll in his #34 as he grabbed the early lead in the  A-Mod Feature and never let up gaining a huge lead.  Luke Lobacz and Craig Lieders put on an  entertaining race, with Lobacz
running in second trying to hold off Lieders constant pressure lap after  lap.   With two laps remaining, Lieders used the inside, front straight away to over-power Lobacz, for second.   Nosser grabbed his second feature win, Lieders 2nd, Lobacz 3rd, Scott Anderson 4th and Shane Halopka in 5th.
