Spacek makes late
race charge to win Mod main during Dale Sonnentag Memorial Invitational! August 27, 2000; Unity, WI. - The WISSOTA Super Stock drivers ran an excellent eight minute, thirty lap feature race with only one caution in the second lap due to a spinout.
Lonnie Leu grabbed the fast lead, followed by Lance Leu, Paul Lieders, Paul Erikson and Eric Bolosky. Lieders moved past Lance in lap four and battled for the lead with Lonnie throughout the race. Jere Stanton moved up through traffic with a sixth row starting position to settle in behind Bolosky in tap twelve. Leu and Lieders grabbed everybody's attention as each lap around as they ran in an almost side by side battle, with the momentum to Leu's advantage as he held off Lieders to the finish for the win, Lieders 2nd, Lance Leu 3rd, Saturday nights feature winner, Steve Hallquist finished fourth after making a last lap move passing both Stanton and Erikson, with Erikson finishing in 5th in the final tally.
Kirk Bogdanovic grabbed the fast lead in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, followed by Bob Seidler, Steve Zurek, and Wayne Dean. In the second lap, Chris Oertel got loose in corner two and spun around and was hit head on by John Booker. Both cars were unable to continue. Kevin Adams was making his way towards the front when his car was struck with a flat tire, he then pulled into the pit area and did not return. Zurek's car looked to have mechanical problems in lap nine and began to fall positions behind. Dean moved past Seidler in lap nine, after a three lap side by side battle. Curt Myers then pressured Seidler and used a low, corner two dive for third in lap ten and continued to use the inside groove as he chased down Dean. Bogdanovic continued to put distance between himself and the others as they battled for positions, Steve Zurek ended his night after hitting the wall in lap 16. With four laps remaining, Myers closed in on Dean and took over second with a low corner three pass. Bogdanovic took the win, Myers 2nd, Dean 3rd, Seidler 4th and Wade Prochnow finished in fifth.
Troy Kuyoth led the WISSOTA Modified feature, followed by Karl Fenske, Brad Seehafer, Tyler Keyser and Jeff Spacek. Under a caution in lap nine, Rich Lofthus, Scott Duval, Jason McFadden and Mark Baxter all left the track. Spacek moved past Seehafer for fourth in lap twelve. Karl Fenske was called on a caution in lap fifteen and did not continue the race, moving Keyser and Spacek into second and third. A tough battle in front was held as Keyser and Spacek left little space between each other and Kuyoth.
A caution on Butch Oertel in lap twenty four tightened up the race for the final six laps. Kuyoth used the inside groove, while Spacek went high racing side by side in the turns and backstretch. Spacek gained ground on Kuyoth each lap and took over the lead with two laps remaining for a thrilling feature finish. Kuyoth claimed 2nd, Seehafer 3rd, Ron Mahder 4th and Bob Sammann in 5th. Craig Lieders led the A-Mod Feature from start to finish for the feature win, Jason Zdroik battled off Scott Anderson's hot pursuit throughout the race for second, Anderson third and Shane Halopka in fourth.
