Duval dusts Monster
Mod Main! September 8, 2000; Unity, WI. - The season championships were held a week late at the Monster Hall Raceway on Friday, Sept. 8th to conclude the 2000 season at MHR. Super Stocks were up first with the 2000 track champion, Paul Lieders sat
on the pole and shot out into the lead at the drop of the green. Lonnie Leu and Randy
Spacek quickly moved in on Lieders and made it a three-car battle for the lead. Leu
appeared to be quicker off the corners as he shot Paul Erickson was on the move as he was using the extreme low side of the speedway as he slipped into 4th as the laps wound down. Spacek made a late race charge after Leu, but Lonnie was up to the challenge as he went on to pick up the win over Spacek. Lieders was able to hold off Erickson for third and Mike Bauer rounded out the top five. Kevin Adams shot off of the pole position into the lead at the start of the Street Stock feature, but Rod Herman stuck right to him. Herman made several attempts to duck to the inside of Adams up front for the lead, but Adams held the preferred line and was able to hold the top spot. Kirk Bogdonovic moved in on the battle for the lead as the half-way point neared as the three leaders distanced themselves from the rest of the field. Several mid-race cautions bunched up the field, but Adams continued his lead with Herman continuing to look to the inside for the lead. As the white flag flew, Herman made one last effort for the win as he dove low coming out of turn 4 for the checkered, but Adams was able to hold on for his 21st win of the season. Bogdonovic claimed third with Jason Kellner and Bob Seidler rounding out the top five. Defending race champion Scott Duval blasted off into the lead as the green flew in the Mod feature, as Luke Schilling settled into second. Three quick cautions slowed action early, but once the event got rolling, Duval immediately checked out on the field as Butch Oertel and Steve Isenburg began to scramble for position as were Jerry Weigel and Lance Burt. Back up front, Jeff Spacek began to hound Schilling for second, but Schilling was running very solidly in the preferred line and was able to hold off Spacek. Duval, meanwhile, was running away from the field in search of defending
his race victory. Spacek worked on Schilling long enough until he was able to slip by into
second late in the event as Weigel and Isenburg began to battle for fifth. Duval cruised
to his 6th win of the season over Spacek, The A-Mod main was short due to the fact that only 4 cars were able to start the main. Craig Leiders made a shambles of the event as he dominated the event to pick up the season championship main event. Jeff Wilczek, Scott Anderson and Brian Rodman rounded out the field.
