The WISSOTA Super Stocks ran a swift-paced feature with only one caution held in their twenty lap feature. Paul Lieders is having an exceptional early season run at MHR. With two for two feature wins already recorded in the books, the luck of a draw settled him in the pole position start. Eric Olson, Scott Johnson, Mike Bauer and Rich Bishop followed, filling in the top five spots. With a fifth row start, Lonnie Leu weaved a smooth line through traffic moving past Bishop and Bauer for fourth in the third lap. Johnson wasn't about to give up his third position so easily and did a great job holding off Leu's constant pressure until an opening gave Leu just enough room to get by him after seven laps of battle.
Up front Lieders and Olson were making their way through lap traffic, until a spinout brought out the caution flag with five laps remaining. The wide open restart was all Lieders would need as he sailed past the checkered flag for a "three-peat" feature win performance, Olson 2nd, Leu 3rd, Johnson 4th and Bauer in 5th.
The WISSOTA Street Stock drivers put on an excellent, caution free fifteeen lap feature for their fans Friday night. In the lead, Brent Mindock was followed by Steve Surprenant, Chris Oertel, Chris Lindner and Scott Krause. Oertel overtook Surprenant in the third lap for second, and began his close-in on Mindock, who had opened up a half lap lead. At the same time, Rod Herman and Kevin Adams were clawing their way through backed up traffic after a fourth and fifth row start. Gaining ground on Mindock each lap around the track, Oertel made it quite clear that he did not want to "follow the leader," as he used the inside backstretch in the sixth lap, to position himself ahead of Mindock for the lead. In the same lap Adams had moved into third, followed by Herman for fourth. Mindock was able to hold off Adams pressure for second until the ninth lap, leaving Adams with only six laps to try and catch Oertel who had opened up a huge lead. With an early heat win, Oertel completed a perfect night of racing action, grabbing his second feature win of the season, followed by Adams in 2nd, Mindock 3rd, Herman 4th and Surprenant in 5th.
An over-anxious group of full throttled Modified drivers started their 20 lap WISS0TA feature off with a massive pile-up of cars, spinning out of control in the front stretch. Troy Kuyoth did his best to avoid complete destruction of his car, running sideways along the wall, leaving a trail of sparks as he barely missed the cement wall near the pit exit area skidding to a heart-pounding stop. A red light brought the field to a complete stop as the ambulance crew checked on drivers and the wreckers began their work pulling cars apart. Butch Steckbauer was pulled off the track with extensive damage to his #31 car. With a broken tie-rod, Kuyoths pit crew and many helpful people were able to get him back on the track at the restart. Scott Duval, who had also left the track was back in time to take the green. Steve Isenberg grabbed the lead after a complete restart, followed by Jerry Weigel, Lance Burt, Tim Isenberg and Luke Schilling. Kuyoth was on a mission as he took off like a flash of lightning, bringing the crowd off their feet as he flew past cars at an alarmingly rate of speed, pulling into the fourth position by the sixth lap after a back row start. Only to be disappointed later as he was called earlier for jumping at the restart. By the ninth lap, Kuyoth moved into third and began to pressure Weigel for second. Weigel held his ground each lap around as Kuyoth used corner four to gain
on him, only to have Weigel pull away as they rounded corner one. A caution came out
in the thirteenth lap when Roger Andres motor died and was unable to get his car off
the track. Leader, Steve Isenberg found himself caught up in the battle at the
restart as Weigel and Kuyoth continued their hard fought race. It didn't take
long to complete the remaining seven laps as Isenberg held on for his first feature
win. Weigel a hard fought 2nd, Kuyoth, (who finished in the 3rd spot), earned 5th after
his penalty for jumping the starrt, Burt was awarded third 3rd and Tim Isenberg was
awarded fourth. Results Super Stock: |
