Leiders and Nosser remain
undefeated at MHR in 2000!
By Janis Weigel
May 19, 2000; Unity, WI. - Great racing action was held
for a well attended crowd on
Friday night at MHR, Inc. Each week a lucky ticket holder for children under the age of 12
is rewarded with a brand new bike, sponsored by local Hardees Restaurants. Next
Friday nights races will be sponsored by Mid-West Coca-Cola.
A caution was called quickly in the WISSOTA Super Stock Feature without a lap completed,
when
the hood of #77 Jim Willners car came undone, leaving debris on the track. A
complete restart was held with #57 Paul Lieders, (who not only is racing great this year,
is also having alot of luck on redraws!) in the pole position, followed by Jere Stanton,
Mark Stender, Mike Bauer and Lonnie Leu. Stender made a fast move, passing
Stanton for second with two laps completed. Leu pressured Bauer for the fourth
position, overtaking him in the fifth lap and wasted no time moving past Stanton for
third in lap six. Non-stop action was held, as the top three began weaving
their way through lap traffic already by the 12th lap. A broken clutch on Leu's car
forced him to leave the track after a solid night of racing with only two laps
remaining. Stender closed in on Lieders but ran out of time as the checkered flag flew,
rewarding Lieders with his fourth straight feature win. Stender 2nd, Bauer 3rd, Stanton
4th and Terry Gorst in 5th.
In the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, Chris Oertel was forced to leave the track,
handing over the pole position on a restart to #36 Dave Teatz. Kevin Adams quickly
moved into second, and began closing in on Teatz. Adams tried high moves and
low moves on each lap, with the momentum in Teatz's favor. Brent Mindock lost
a third position battle to Rod Herman in the seventh lap, and see-sawed back and
forth with Kirk Bogdanovic in the next two laps, fighting for fourth. The
battle up front continued into the ninth lap, until Adams used the low groove in corner
two, edging past Teatz for the lead. Rod Herman came on strong in the next
lap, overpowering Teatz with a low move for second. Barely into the next lap, a
cloud of smoke arose from underneath Herman's hood, erupting into flames. Herman was
pulled from the track, ending a strong run with a blown engine. Falling back
quickly, Teatz was also forced to end his night of great racing action due to a flat
tire in lap twelve. A quick three laps to the finish were held as Kevin Adams
grabbed his second feature win, Bogdanovic 2nd, Mindock 3rd, Chris Lindner 4th and Scott
Krause in 5th.
Contact between the two front leaders, Scott Duval and Jerry Weigel in the first lap
of the WISSOTA Modified feature resulted in Weigel fighting to gain control, forcing him
to dive low into the infield and tag onto the back of the field. Tim Hintz
moved past Robby Bunkelman in the third lap for second, followed by Troy Kuyoth
moving into third after a sixth row start. Hintz gained ground on Duval, passing him
for the lead two laps later. Bunkelman left the track with engine problems in lap
seven, leaving room for last weeks feature winner, Steve Isenberg to move into
third, followed by Steve Kuester and Luke Schilling. The front end of #24
Kevin Rogers broke in the seventh lap, sending him directly into the corner three
wall. Hintz was forced to leave the track in the same lap to change a flat tire,
giving up his lead to Kuyoth. With the lead and thirteen remaining laps of
caution free racing action, Kuyoth was able to stretch out his lead, moving his way
through lap traffic in the last four laps for his first feature win, Duval 2nd,
Isenberg 3rd, Kuester 4th and Schilling 4th.
In the twelve lap A-Mod Feature, #16 Rob Genett was able to hold off
Mickey Nossers constant
pressure for five laps, until Nosser made a low move under Genett in the front
straightaway, for the lead in lap six. A caution called on a spinout, tightened up the
pack with three laps remaining. Genett moved quickly in on Nosser, but Nosser was
able to defend his lead to take his fourth feature win. Genett 2nd, Scott Anderson 3rd,
Craig Lieders 4th and Luke Lobacz in 5th.
