Fifth victories this season for Lieders and Adams at MHR!
By Janis Weigel

June 16, 2000; Unity, WI. - Track conditions were good, considering the amount of rainfall that was received throughout the week in Central Wisconsin.  Early morning showers on Friday  subsided to cloudy/sunny skies and lower temperatures.  Dedicated racers and fans filled  the stands at MHR Friday night sponsored by FM 92.3 WOSQ and AM 1450 WDLB. A full weekend of racing action will be held next weekend with regular races on Friday night and the "Midwest Wing Sprint Special" on Sunday, June 25.

Paul Lieders led the way in the WISSOTA Super Stock feature with Randy Spacek and Lonnie Leu following in hot pursuit throughout the race.  Tad Schoonover and Mike Bauer filled in the fourth and fifth positions.   Good racing action was held, as only a few cautions were called during this 20 lap event.  With a sixth row start, Rich Bishop moved through traffic at a steady pace, positioning himself behind Bauer after eight laps of completion.  Spacek and Leu both put hard pressure on Lieders in the 12th lap, with all three coming through corner four nearly side by side.

Visiting driver Eric Olson (#1) does battle with MHR regular Rich Bishop (#10) during the WISSOTA Super Stock feature.   Bishop would eventually pull ahead and claim a fifth place finish. 61600a.jpg (14709 bytes)

As Lieders maintained the lead, he began to pull away to put a small amount of distance between
himself and his pursuers to set a more comfortable pace.  In lap thirteen, Bauer lost the battle for fifth after Bishop drove underneath him for a low corner four inside pass.   Passing the checkered flag for the win, Lieders grabbed his fifth feature win of the season, Spacek 2nd,  Leu 3rd, Schoonover 4th and Bishop 5th.

61600b.jpg (12511 bytes) While Kevin Adams pulled away from the field, the action in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature was happening behind the leader.  Here Kirk Bogdanovic (#82) and Matt Theisen (#28) challenge each other.

Sixteen cars were whittled down to nine before a lap was completed in the WISSOTA Street
Stock Feature.  Three cautions took their toll on Rod Herman, Matt Theisen, Kirk Bogdanovic,
Steve Surprenant, Larry Dassow and Scott Krause who were all unable to continue the race. Chris
Oertel also had his night of racing action cut short, after a tire flew off his car in the front straightaway bounced through the infield, coming to rest in the back stretch.

Kevin Adams grabbed the fast lead, followed by Dave Teatz and Brent Mindock as fifteen straight laps of racing action was held to the end.  Teatz never gained any ground from Mindock, who applied constant pressure throughout the race.   Adams opened up an impressive lead, running through lap traffic as he grabbed his fifth feature win.  Mindock dove low underneath Teatz as they rounded corner four, and made a great inside move to snatch second from Teatz in the front straightaway as they raced past the  waving checkered flag. Ken Heser finished 4th and Jason Kellner in fifth.

61600g.jpg (19039 bytes) After a thrilling last lap, which Luke Schilling (#43) fend off the challenges of Scott Duval, Schilling had a chance to relax for a moment in victory lane.  It was the first WISSOTA Modified feature win of the season for Schilling.

The WISSOTA Modified feature was a stretched out event as numerous cautions were held due to spinouts, debris, and breakdowns.  With two laps in, racing action was stopped after Jerry Weigel was hit by debris on the track.  Jeff Spacek left the track during this time with a broken brakeline. At the restart, making his first trip back at MHR this season, polesetter Jack Larson took the early lead, followed by Luke Schilling, Tim Isenberg, Scott Duval and Lance  Burt.  Duval moved past
Isenberg for third in the fourth lap.  A broken transmission line forced  Larson to pull off the track
after running a strong lead for nine laps.

The WISSOTA Modified put on some fast paced wheel to wheel action this evening.  Here Jed Moore (#33) runs alongside eventual winner Luke Schilling. 61600e.jpg (15302 bytes)

Taking over the lead, Luke Schilling was followed by Duval, Burt, Butch Oertel and Steve Isenberg after a couple of cautions held in the same lap resulted in changed positions. As Schilling held off Duvals nonstop advances upfront, Kuester applied constant pressure on Steve Isenberg each lap, to take over fifth after a low, inside corner four manuever in lap fifteen.

61600d.jpg (16910 bytes) On a charge!  Scott Duvall (#17) slips under Butch Oertel (#51) during the WISSOTA Modified feature.   Duvall would charge all the way up to second place when the checkered fell.

Schilling and Duval battled it out to the end, using the inside groove each time they rounded corner four.  As they raced the final lap for the checkered flag, Duval made a quick change running the high outside bank through the final corner.  Schilling prevailed as he  collected a well deserved first feature win of the season at MHR. Duval second, Burt third, Oertel fourth and Kuester fifth.

Mickey Nosser (#34) who had dominated the opening weeks in the A-Modifieds, finally made his way back to the winner's circle this evening.  Nosser had opened the season with four straight feature victories. 61600f.jpg (12766 bytes)

Mickey Nosser grabbed the fast lead in the A-Mod feature, followed by Jeff Wilczek and Luke
Lobacz.  Rob Genett moved into second in the third lap, while Craig Lieders positioned himself in third.Genett and Lieders continue to provide an interesting race, as they battle each other weekly for positions. Holding a solid lead, Nosser took the win, while Genett held off Lieders for 2nd.
