Special at Monster Hall! July 8, 2001; Unity, WI. - On Sunday, July 8 the Midwest Sprint Cars made their first appearace at the Monster Hall Raceway of 2001 after being washed out a few weeks back.
The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was first to take to the raceway
with Kevin Adams immediately applied heavy pressure to Heser and took second
one lap later, then blew by Stark in the next turn while Brent Mindock passed Heser for
third. Near lap five the second caution of the race flew for Heser, who broke The WISSOTA Super Stocks strolled onto the raceway for their feature next
with Butch Kummer and the Street Stock feature winner Kevin Adams on the front row. At the
drop of the green Adams jumped from the front row and rode the Adams was dialed in on the heavy track which had nearly a 12 inch berm on the high side, and had built up a six car lenght lead five laps into the race; however, his lead was diminished when the first caution flag flew for a three car tangle on the front chute involving Lonnie Leu, Paul Lieders and Mike Bauer. Leu suffered a flat left rear tire and was forced to pit while Bauer went off on the hook.d Lieders was able to continue with only cosmetic damage to his #57 machine. Before the green flag flew, both Leu and Bauer tagged on to the rear of the field after making pits stops to repair damage on their machines. With the green flag waving for the restart, Lonnie Leu and Charlie Newberry got tangled up in turn four. On the second attempt at the restart, Adams again took the high side and blasted to the lead uncontested while Scott Johnson and Jere Stanton drove by Kummer on the inside for third and fourth. One lap later another caution flew for Bauer, who stalled in turn four. Back under the green flag, Johnson worked the inside of Lance Leu while Lonnie Leu made a charge to the front and worked the inside of Jeff Spacek for the eighth position. After Johnson made the pass for second on Lance Leu, Johnson pounded the back chute retaining wall while racing out of turn two, causing damage to his machine and forcing him to go pitside. The restart line-up had Adams leading followed by Lance Leu, Stanton, Kummer, Spacek, Bolosky and Lonnie Leu. With the green flying over the raceway, Stanton worked the inside of Lance Leu while Spacek sped past Kummer, but the moves were erased when yet another yellow flew. Again under green, Spacek flew past Kummer into fourth while Lonnie Leu tried to find an opening under Bolosky, but one lap later Leu suffered another flat tire. This time it was the left front tire. Leu continued but his charged to the front fizzled. Meanwhile, Spacek was flying around the raceway searching for the leader.
He blew by Stanton and one lap later ducked inside Lance Leu for second. Gary Solum was
also on the move after he had been relegated to the rear during a caution period. He
worked Bolosky for fourth before the final caution of the race flew for Jim Willner, who
came to a rest on the On the final restart Spacek steered high and low trying to pass Adams but to no avail. Adams went on to claim his second feature of the night after holding off the relentless pressure of Spacek. Lance Leu finished third ahead of Stanton and Bolosky. The Midwest Sprint Car feature was a wild event and Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Kurt Davis came away the victor. At the drop of the green, polesitter Jeff Becker blasted to the lead and led the first five laps before Scott Conger sailed by. The first caution of the race flew for Paul Gieb, who stalled in turn four. Also during the caution, Michael Emme suffered a flat right rear tire and was forced to pit. The restart line-up had Conger leading followed by Lloyd Dykstra, Troy Hepfner, Keith Olejnik and Becker. The winged warriors got wound back up to speed with the green flag waving and a tight battle for the lead raged on. They raced for two laps before Troy Hepfner spun in turns three and four, bringing out another caution. On the final restart Dykstra darted to the lead. He led for several laps before Oljenik overtook the top slot. Oljenik led until five laps remained when 11th place starter Davis dazzled the crowd with his wide open cushion blasting antics. Davis clearly had the fastest car on the raceway and he darted though traffic with ease and blew by Oljenik on the outside. Davis continued his torrid pace on the high side, blasting off the turn one cushion and slingshotting down the back chute enroute to the victory. Midwest Sprintcar Association B Feature -- 1.
