Keyser captures Mod main, Spacek
paces Super Stocks at Monster Hall! May 18, 2001; Unity, WI. - On a beautiful Friday night at
the Monster Hall Raceway, four out of the five divisions were swept by their respective
feature winners. Tyler Keyser notched his first Modified win of 2001, Randy Spacek sped to
his second Super Stock win of the year at MHR, and in the Street Stocks Chris Oertel held
off the hard charging Kevin Adams for his first win of the year. Scott Anderson continued
his dominance in the A-Mod division and Scott and Bill
The WISSOTA Super Stock feature rolled onto the raceway to kick off
the feature events. Last week's feature winner, Kevin Adams, and Shawn Huse paced the
field followed by row two starters Jim Willner and Randy Spacek. On the next lap Spacek utilized the high line in turns one and two
and swept around Huse for the lead down the back chute momentarily; however, Huse fought
back and regained the lead in turns three and four. The front pack of Huse, Spacek
and Lieders then raced closely down the front stretch, which turned into a three wide
battle for the lead going into the first turn. This time Spacek made the move stick to
take the lead. Lieders followed Spacek and took the second Meanwhile, back in the pack a bit, brothers Lance and Lonnie Leu had somewhat of a heated battle raging. Lonnie was able to power past Lance at the checkers for sixth. Spacek went on to capture his second win at the Monster Hall Raceway for the 2001 race season followed by Lieders, Adams and Huse. Bill Schwantes rounded out the top five. Rod Herman and Ralph Stark shared the front row for the WISSOTA Street
Stock feature and at the drop of the green Herman bolted to the lead, leaving the battle
for second behind him. With only one lap in, a caution after a couple of Back under green Herman again took command of the race followed by Brent
Mindock, Stark and Chris Oertel. Oertel ducked under Stark for third while Adams drove
around him on the outside for fourth, dropping Stark to fifth. Oertel then set his sights
on Mindock and drove to the inside of him to take over second. Oertel quickly closed on
Herman and raced door to door down the back chute for the lead. Herman retained the
lead for several laps before Oertel made an inside Herman left just enough room for Adams to get by on the inside in turn two and Adams shot to the opening, taking second from Herman. The pass was voided when a caution flew for James Bandow, who stalled on the front stretch. During the lineup for the restart, Adams' car showed lots of blue smoke rolling out from the engine compartment and it looked like trouble for the #40 machine, but he was able to continue. With the green flag waving one last time, Adams worked Herman high and low for second. He was able to make the pass and set out for Oertel. Oertel and Adams battled back and forth and swapped positions a few times, providing for a great show for the fans. At the checkered, though Oertel picked up his first win of 2001 followed closely by Adams, Herman and Mindock. Stark had good run and rounded out the top five. The open wheeled WISSOTA Modifieds rumbled onto the raceway for their feature next with Dan Konrardy and Luke Schilling on the front row followed by row two starters Steve Kuester and Jeff Spacek. At the drop of the green Konrardy jumped from the pole position to the lead before Luke Schilling and Jeff Spacek drove by him on the second lap and began to put distance between themselves and the rest of the field. A pair of Steves, Isenberg and Kuester, along with Jed Moore and Scott Duval, were running in a tight pack for fourth behind Konrardy, but a quick caution for a three car tangle out of turn four simmered the battle. Back under green Spacek applied pressure to Schilling but he was not able to make the pass. Also on the move was Butch Oertel, who moved up to fourth, ahead of Duval. A caution flag appeared again when Duval got turned around on the front stretch, but he was returned to fifth place on the restart. Spacek was able to make a move on Schilling for the lead when the race was restarted; however, another caution for a wreck on the front chute negated the move and Schilling was aligned as the race leader. Suddenly Tyler Keyser, who started seventh in the field, came alive. On the next restart he picked off car after car and made his way to Schilling. Keyser passed Schilling momentarily, but a final caution of the event relegated him to second. With the green flag waving one last time, Keyser put his Chute Roosters Chevrolet on the high side of turns one and two and sailed around Schilling for the lead. He then ducked to the inside in turns three and four and began to stretch the lead on the way to his first feature win of the 2001 race season. Schilling held on for second ahead of Spacek, Konrardy and Oertel. Next up were the open wheeled A-Mods. Rob Genett shot from the pole
position and maintained a healthy lead while Scott Anderson bolted from the last row to
third. Anderson was able to overtake Purdy for second when he slid high in turn four, but
Genett had built a straightaway lead over the field. As the race wore on, Anderson slowly
cut in Genett's The final event of the night was the Cruiser feature. This event turned
out to be survival of the fittest as five cars started but only one finished. With the
green flag waving, the #544 machine driven by Jared Loos and Josh Olson shot out to the
lead The first caution of the event waved for John and Mark Virning and Curt Andres, who came together in turn four. John and Mark Virning were called for the caution and relegated to the rear of the pack for the restart. Andres retired for the night with mechanical problems. Back under green, Jared Loos and Josh Olson continued to lead followed by
John and Mark Virning, who had quickly disposed of Scott and Bill Davis. The next lap
proved to be the most exciting of the night. While racing out of turn two, the #6.2
machine of John and Mark Virning made contact with the leaders, Jared Loos and Josh Olson,
causing them to Since the caution was on Loos and Olson, their second of the race, they were disqualified, leaving the lone survivors Davis and Davis, who were awarded the win.
