Konrardy Captures Mod Main at
Monster Hall Raceway! Terry Anvelink Tops Lates!
By Ben Brost
July 12, 2002; Unity, WI. - A great track combined with a
strong crowd made for a great show for all involved at Monster Hall Raceway on Friday
night. Slush Puppie, Pepsi, and 104.1 WMZK brought 6 classes of racing to the 1/3 mile
high banks, combined with an autograph session, as well as kids bike races.
Out of the gate first were the WISSOTA Midwest Mods, with yet
another tough lineup for the competitors. #3JR Shane Halopka, after a strong performance
in his heat race, came out with the thunder in the feature event, consistently challenging
for positions. #01 Al Seehafer also showed that he's got it, holding the lead for a while,
but in the end, a very familiar name in the Midwest Mods, #27 Scott Anderson came home
with the win, moving up the field on the high side, then breaking away, taking home the
checkers.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks have seen a ton of talent this season, with a bunch of young
drivers coming up the ranks, developing their skills. #51 Chris Oertel, #3 Jared Lindner,
#27 John Becker have raced very hard at Monster Hall Raceway this season so far.
Oertel is up in national points, Becker won a feature this season,
and Lindner has had some mechanical problems, but is showing steady improvement and is
going to be a threat in races to come. "Gullickson is awesome plain and simple.
Hopefully we can be up there in victory lane again soon, we've got a good car,"
Becker stated, after pulling in the pits after his race. "We have been working very
hard on trying different setups, talking with other race teams, and we think that we
almost have it, we just gotta keep trying, and we will come around," Crew Chief Shaun
Miller added.
Coming all the way over from Stacy, MN, #00x Dan Gullickson started
on the outside pole and was gone at the drop of the green flag, showing the rest of the
crew how it was done at Monster Hall Raceway. His car was working on the high side, and
the low groove, hooking up all over the track. Oertel tried to catch him, but just didn't
have enough to get ahead of Gullickson, who continues to be strong every week. "It's
a great track, the people are great, I really like it here" Gullickson stated.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks had a great night with a lineup of great competitors in the hunt
for the win, with WISSOTA National point leader #40 Kevin Adams in the midst again. It was
an awesome battle with #22 Randy Spacek, #97 Eric Bolosky, #27 Mark Stender, and #77 Jim
Willner all battling for positions on the track. A couple of quick cautions gave the cars
time to cool down enough to battle harder at the drop of the green flag. The person who
capitalized the most on positions, cautions, and the track was #40 Kevin Adams. Adams
worked his way to the front spot with ease halfway through the race, and stayed there,
claiming his record 61st feature win at Monster Hall Raceway.
The WISSOTA Modifieds saw a lot of different competitors towards the top on Friday, with
new names in the hunt such as #25 Dan Konrardy, #70 Mike Williams, #61 Ray Karl Jr. and
many more. The first few laps saw some action with a couple of crashes taking out a few
drivers, but brought more action as Konrardy drove the wheels off of his car, flying
around the corners, down the straightaways, taking the win for his first ever MHR victory.
The WISSOTA Late Models saw a newcomer to the class, coming all the way from Black Creek,
WI, Doug Klemp started 6th in the feature, and held his own throughout the night. Up front
was Terry Anvelink in his black #32 showed the way for the majority of the race, with his
son Nick charging up the field trying to catch up to Terry, but to no avail, as Terry
Anvelink got yet another feature sticker on his car.
The cars get faster as more show up, and the track keeps getting better, making for great
Friday night racing at Monster Hall Raceway. This Friday night will once again bring six
classes of racing, sponsored by Auto Value-Bumper to Bumper, so be sure to come out and
watch the great action at Monster Hall Raceway!
