Busy Night Provides Race Fans
With Double Feature Action at Monster Hall Raceway!
By Ben Brost
August 2, 2002; Unity, WI. - W.A.X.X 104.5 and
Class-E-Auto, Marshfield WI brought an evening of record breaking action at Monster Hall
Raceway on Friday night, with five classes of racing with double features and oval track
motorcycles in the house.
The Street Stocks, Supers, Mods, and 2 Man Cruisers all ran
double features on Friday night, with #33 being the lucky number of the evening. Street
Stock wheelman #33 Mike Paul drove away with the Street Stock win with ease, Modified
driver #33 Jed Moore drove around the competition to collect his first win of the evening
and the Super Stocks saw #22 Randy Spacek in the winner's circle for the first of their
feature events. After starting from row 2 on the outside, the team of Ed Hoffmann and
Travis Hamm took their #8UP machine into the winner's circle for the second time this
season in the 2 Man Cruisers.
The Midwest Mods stepped up to the plate first with 12 cars in the
feature lineup, with Medford's Dave Salzman in his #13 machine on the point. At the drop
of the green flag, a melee ensued with #3jr Shane Halopka throwing down the moves and
moving out front early on, making every attempt to walk away in the field, and doing so
until a caution flag brought the field back together, and allowing #27 Scott Anderson to
get closer to Halopka. Halopka made Anderson work for the lead spot, with four laps to go,
Anderson drove around Halopka down the front stretch, and Anderson came though with the
win.
The Street Stocks saw a very interesting setup on the point of the field, a 1957 Chevy
piloted by #29 Doug Herbst, who took off from the get go, making his machine work around
the 1/3 mile like it was 30 years newer. Herbst was out front from the beginning until the
end, taking home his first ever dirt track victory.
The Super Stocks saw veteran #75 Scott Geiger on the point, with national point leader #40
Kevin Adams outside of him, who took off out front at the drop of the green. Adams, who
breaks his own record every time he wins a feature, held his lead out front and drove all
the way home into the Budweiser winner's circle to take his win yet again like no other.
The Modifieds saw #70 Mike Williams on an absolute tear around the high banks for the
first 9 laps of the event, trying to walk away from the field, and doing so for a period
of time until Jed Moore, on his record setting pace, drove between #35B David Baxter and
#43 Luke Schilling before entering corner one. Taking his Ford powered #33 into the
winner's circle, Moore set a new record at Monster Hall Raceway, for taking two feature
wins in one night.
The 2-Man Cruisers put on a great show each and every week, showing multiple levels of
talent and communication among the drivers of each of the machines. Friday night was no
different, with "The Blue Flame" Jared Loos and Josh Olson in their #44 started
on the pole, and walked away with the win putting their car on the rail all the way into
the Budweiser winner's circle for the first time this season.
