Terry Anvelink Tops WISSOTA
Challenge Series action at Monster Hall!
By Ben Brost
August 7, 2002; Unity, WI. - Kafka Conveyors and
Equipment and Kafka Granite brought the WISSOTA Late Model Challenge series to Monster
Hall Raceway Wednesday night, with the WISSOTA Street Stocks and WISSOTA Modifieds
accompanying the Late Models on the program card.
The Street Stocks put on a great show for the fans with many in
attendance. The feature started with #71R Rod Herman on the point, who took the holeshot
coming out of corner 2, and held the lead for lap one. A melee ensued behind Rod. With
cars 3 & 4 wide rolling around on the 1/3 mile high banked oval, #51 Chris Oertel
throwing his '72 Chevelle around on the cushion, trying to get positions, as the points
battle between him and the #33 Mike Paul continues to rage on as the season winds down,
with less than 20 points separating the two talented wheelmen. However, in the end, nobody
was about to challenge the black and red #71R, who crossed the finish line first, taking
his first Monster Hall Raceway feature win this season.
The Modifieds rolled out next, with many talented drivers in the field, including national
point leader #91 Craig Thatcher, and strong runner #1 Paul Harelstad. #43 Luke "Big
Red" Schilling came out with the thunder off of the front row, with high flying #33
Jed Moore trying to challenge him on the low side. The cars were single file on the track,
when a caution came out, bunching the open wheeled machines back together. Schilling was
still out front, pulling away from the field, with Moore doing everything that he could to
catch up to him, but in the end it was "Big Red" who came through with his first
feature win of this season.
The Late Models came out with the noise, with "The Navarino Nightmare" Terry
Anvelink in his black and silver #32 on the point. At the drop of the green, it was all
Terry from start to finish. #80 Troy Kuyoth was coming up through the field, passing cars
on both the high and low side, along with #15K John Kurshinsky trying to work his magic
around the high banks. However, in the end, nobody could catch up to Anvelink, who came
through with the win, ahead by 5 car lengths as he crossed the finish line.
It was a great night of racing on Wednesday night, and be sure to join us every Friday
night where we run 6 great classes of racing. In two weeks, we will be running season
championships, which should be a spectacular night to cap off a great season at Monster
Hall Raceway!!!
