Budweiser Season Championhips
taken by Spacek's, Anvelink, Anderson and Paul! August 23, 2002; Unity, WI. - A cloudy day led into a
beautiful night for the Budweiser Season Championships, where 6 classes of racing sign in
to do battle yet another time at Monster Hall Raceway.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds came out with Al Seehafer and
Scott Anderson making up the front row. From
the drop of the green flag, it was a battle for position with Seehafer out front, and
Anderson trying to catch up to him, with Shane Halopka and Jim Poyda going at each other
for 3rd. Anderson was still in
second, as he swept through the 1 and 2 corner, getting around Seehafer on the low side,
and driving his red #27 to the Winners Circle.
Next up were the WISSOTA Street Stocks, with Chris Oertel on the
point for the first time this season, and Mike Paul starting to the outside, making up the
pacesetting row. Paul jumped out to an early
lead, with Oertel moving into second. Mike
Paul set his car on rails as he drove to the winners circle yet another time, and
Oertel followed a close second, which culminated a great rivalry between the two very
talented wheelmen. After last week with
Oertel taking the points crown, and Paul coming in second, this week proved that the
drivers are that of equal talent, and this is the beginning of a strong friendly rivalry
for many years to come. The WISSOTA Super Stocks worked their magic another time with Randy
Spacek and Jim Willner out front, and Mark Stender and Lance Leu making up the row behind
them, which made for a great top 5 battle. Spacek
jumped out to an early lead, with Willner holding on in second, but no one could catch up
to Spacek, who ran away with the race, and claiming the undisputed championship at Monster
Hall Raceway. The WISSOTA Modifieds were led out by a ton of experience with Jeff
Spacek and Butch Oertel out front. The drop
of the green saw Butch Oertel get the holeshot on the backstretch, consistently keeping
ahead of the rest of the field. Spacek could
catch up in the corners, putting his right rear tire on the black part of the track. Oertel ran the high side, putting the back right
tire on the cushion, and sling shoting past Spacek in the straightaways. Caution came out halfway through the race, which
gave Spacek and Oertels tires a chance to cool down, and once the race got back
under way it was all Oertel, who after 29 years of racing and 5 years since his last
feature win, proved that he still can drive on the top of his game. The WISSOTA Late Models came out with both Anvelinks on the front
row, with #15 Nick showing the way, and #32 Terry on the outside. From the start, it was Terry Anvelink out front,
extending his lead out to a straightaway, and never looking back. #5 M. J. McBride lost his ignition early on in the
feature, leaving the field wide open for Anvelink. Robby
Bunkelman battled for 2nd with Nick Anvelink, but he couldnt get around
Nightmare the Deuce, and he couldnt get ahead of The Navarino
Nightmare who is the first ever Monster Hall Raceway season champion in the late
models. Monster Hall raceway would like to invite everybody to the last 3
races this season, with this Friday being a regular race, and the following weekend being
the season ending invitational, with $2000 to win for the Late Models on Friday night. |
