Genett Grabs First Career
Modified Feature Win at Moster Hall Raceway!
By Ben Brost
August 30, 2002; Unity, WI. - Abbyland Foods, Abbotsford
WI sponsored 6 classes of racing at Monster Hall Raceway on Friday night. The drivers were
greeted by an awesome racing surface, and the fans were greeted by a pleasant atmosphere,
along with warm weather to enjoy the races in.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds came on the track with veteran
Mickey Nosser on the point, and Jim Poyda to the outside, making the pacesetting row for
the first feature event of the night. From 3rd place, Shane Halopka turned the throttle on
taking the frontrunners spot early on, only to be challenged by Mickey Nosser, who took on
the lead spot. Scott Anderson and Shane Halopka got together in turn two, which brought
out the caution, getting the cars back together.
When the cars were brought back up to speed, Halopka's right rear
spring came loose, causing a severe push in Halopka's car, taking him out of contention
for the win, but putting on an impressive display for the fans in attendance, lifting his
left front tire off of the ground through the corners. Nosser was out to a strong lead
over second place car Al Seehafer, who had an awesome performance after starting dead last
in the main event, and Halopka in a distant third, which was how they crossed the line,
with Nosser grabbing another win.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks came out with the 2002 track champion Chris Oertel on the point
for the second time this season, and to his outside #5 Pete Paulus, competing row one.
Oertel broke from the rest of the field, coming out front early on. Dan Gullickson came on
the charge moving up into second place, and trying to take over the lead, to no avail, as
trouble struck the Minnesota native, taking him into pit lane for some minor repair work,
and bringing him back onto the track in the back of the field. Chris Oertel, just as he
did all season long, again proved to be too much for the competition, and he took home yet
another feature win.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks saw a ton of action, with 3 time track champion Paul Leiders on
the point. At the drop of the green, Leiders took off out front, being challenged by #10T
Larry Jackson. Jackson and Leiders got together, bringing out the caution, sending Leiders
to the pits with unrepairable damage to the 57 car. The super stock track champ Randy
Spacek, who started in 8th, came up through the field and took the lead, and the win, for
yet another time at Monster Hall Raceway.
The WISSOTA Modifieds were led by Jed Moore on the point, with Rob Genett on the outside.
The cars were brought up to pace, with Moore taking the holeshot, and Genett in second
place. Genett came underneath Moore in the 1-2 corner, passing him on the backstretch, to
take over the lead spot. All drivers were vying for position, with Butch Oertel coming off
of his stellar performance last week, hanging onto third place. Scott Duval, after
starting 5th, made his way up to second, and looked to take the lead but engine trouble
struck his Dodge, sending him into the pits, still leaving Genett out front, with Moore
continuing to ride in second. In the end, it was the red #16 who took home the win for the
first time in his modified. "The one person that I have to thank is my son, Kyle. If
it weren't for him begging me to race tonight, I wouldn't have," an ecstatic Gennett
stated.
