Monster Hall Raceway Presents
Mid-Season Championships! June 27, 2002; Unity, WI. - After two weeks of rain, the fans who came to Monster Hall Raceway on Friday night were greeted by beautiful weather and a host of cars to compete in the Budweiser Midseason Championships, sponsored by S & S Distributing (Presented by K & A Promotions).
The Midwest Mods saw a few new cars competing on Friday night,
with #95 Duane Geboy and #89 Kevin Renneke making their season debut at Monster Hall
Raceway. The race got off to a bang with #4
Jim Poyda and #01 Al Seehafer making up the front row.
Seehafer got into the throttle and jumped out to his lead, with Poyda and
#27 Scott Anderson behind him. Anderson
challenged, but pushed his motor too hard losing it as he crossed the checkers, coming in
second, with Poyda coming in third. The Street Stocks came out next, with #51 Chris Oertel taking the
point, with #33 Mike Paul and #36 Dave Teatz surrounding him, ready to put on a good show
for the fans. Oertel got the lead early,
leaving the rest in the dust until two laps left, when Oertel heading into turn 3, his
machine completely flipped over, causing tremendous damage to his #51. Throughout the race, #33 Mike Paul put his car on
a rail trying to catch up to Oertel, and was a car length behind when Oertel flipped. It was looking to be a green white checkered race,
but the drivers and officials alike decided to call the race, crowning #33 Mike Paul
Midseason Champion. The Super Stocks rolled out next, with 5 time feature winner #22
Randy Spacek looking to be the favorite. Spacek
got his lead, but charging ahead was #14L Lance Leu, ending up in second place, but Spacek
was too much for anybody, coming away with his fifth victory of the season. Behind him was #14L Lance Leu who drove Jamie
Strebigs car for the night coming through with an extremely strong finish, then was
#77 Jim Willner who has been in contention all season long for a strong finish, and coming
in 4th was the veteran #27 Mark Stender. The Mods came out to the High Banks next with a strong field of
competitors hunting for the win. #22 Jeff
Spacek out front, trying to take his 5th feature win of the season, but he was
challenged by #51 Butch Oertel, and #16 Rob Gennett.
Gennett continued to hold his line trying to get up front, but couldnt
get around Oertel, and Oertel didnt have enough to muscle past Spacek. It was Jeff Spacek coming through with his 5th
win of the season, Oertel coming in second, and Genett rounding out the top 3. MID WEST MODIFIEDS: STREET STOCK: SUPER STOCK: MODIFIED: LATE MODEL: |
