Hanson Hauls to Monster Hall Late Model Checkered!

June 13, 2003; Unity, WI. - After last weeks rainout, the fans at Monster Hall Raceway were greeted with warm weather, a great racing surface, and a great night of racing. The program got under way at 7:00, with double the races on the program card, and finished shortly after Midnight, with Absolute Heating and Cooling putting on the show for 6 racing classes.

The Midwest Modifieds came on the track with #13 Dave Salzman from Medford WI showing the way in his blue and white #13, with veteran racer Ken “the Hurricane” Heser in his red and white #35 to the outside, making up row number one. Immediately, Heser jumped out to a big lead, gaining several car lengths on the field, driving in great form. Jack Larson out of Marshfield WI started in 5th position, and immediately flew past the #2M Mike Molitor and #4 of Jim Poyda, putting Larson in 3rd place contending for 2nd.

On lap 5 Larson went to work on the #13 of Dave Salzman and past him in the 3-4 corner moving Larson up into 2nd place, and setting his sites on the leader, #35 Ken Heser. On lap 7 Larson shot past Heser on the back stretch, giving Larson the lead, and putting Heser back to second place. Also making his way through the field after starting 9th, the #1 car of Mickey Nosser found himself in 3rd place after passing Salzman. On lap 11, while Larson is lapping traffic, the #3 junior of Shane Holupka passed Salzman for 4th, putting Halupka in 3rd place behind Nosser and Larson, which is how the top 3 would end up with Larson collecting another win. 

The Street Stock feature came on the track with the #15 of Steve Bangert on the pole, and the #22 of Scott Miller to the outside completing row #1. WISSOTA national points leader Dan Gullikson in his 00x found himself starting in the fourth position looking for another win on the evening. Bangert jumped out to an early lead with 99w Brock Wirght in 2nd place, after passing Miller. Wirght and the # 33 of Mike Paul got together on lap 5, bringing out the caution. At the restart of the race, Gullikson found himself back in the lead, with Bangert in second, and #8 Jon Goulden in third, and #24 Butch Kummer in fourth. Gullikson would end up taking the win, with Bangert in second, Goulden in third, #23 Mike Warga in fourth.

The Super Stocks came out next with WISSOTA national points leader #40 Kevin Adams on the point, with veteran Super Stock driver #14L Lance Leu starting to the outside. Immediately, Adams jumps out to the lead, with teammates #55j of Robby Bunkelman and #55s of Jere Stanton battling for third and fourth, and Leu hanging onto third. 3 time MHR track champion #57 Paul Leiders held onto fifth place, with #4 Paul Erickson riding in 6th. Caution came over the speedway with #99 Ralph Stark and #75 Scott Geiger getting together, with Geiger sliding sideways.

At the restart, #46 Shannon Williams, Geiger, and #17 Terry Gorst got together slowing the field down once again. The cars came back up to speed and cars were once again driving for position, with the #22 Randy Spacek moving around the #1M of Curt Myers. As Leiders and Spacek kept vying for postion, Spacek passed Leiders, and Myers followed Spacek, and then Myers passed Spacek, putting him in third, which is where he would end up on the night, with Adams taking the win, and Lance Leu taking second place.

The Modifieds were next on the program card with second generation racer #95x Kent Baxter on the point, veteran racer #22 Jeff Spacek on the outside, and the lightning fast #33 Jed Moore starting in 3rd. The field was brought up to green with Spacek jumping out to the early lead, and Moore running in second place. On lap 3, the 9I of Steve Isenberg got together with the #70 of Mike Williams bringing the field back down to caution pace. As the field got back up to green, Spacek still had the lead, with Moore hanging onto the second place spot, looking to make his way into the lead. As the race wound down, Spacek had a big lead, with Moore comfortably hanging onto second, and hard charging #43 Luke Schilling running in third, which is how they would end up.

The late models saw veteran racer #25 Kerry Hanson come off of the Super Late Model ranks back into WISSOTA, piloting his Seubert Calf Ranches/Fighting Cock Burbon/Rocket to the pole position. To his outside, from Navarino WI, Terry Anvelink started in his Seubert Calf Ranches/Decker Lumber/Rocket, making up row number one. Right away in the race, Hanson took off, jumping out to a big lead. On lap 5, Steve Isenberg of Marshfield WI in his Don Nickolai Construction/Custom Fabrication and Repair/MasterSbilt passed Nick Anvelink in his Seubert Calf Ranches/Lakeshore Lanes/Rocket for 3rd, and eventually works his way into second place. Hanson continued to lead, with Isenberg now in second, which is how they would cross the checkers.
