June 18, 2004; Unity, WI. - Monster Hall Raceway presented a full racing program this
past Friday sponsored by Midway Steel, WOSQ 92.3, WYTE 96.7, and LITE 106.5. In addition to the regular WISSOTA classes, the
Thunder Bikes made their annual stop at the high banks of the Monster Hall Raceway. These Two-Wheel Daredevils put on a great show and
keep the fans on the edge of their seats whenever they enter the track.
The track crew did a
great job of working the track surface in because there were multiple grooves for the
drivers to run all night long. Scott Duvall
used several of those grooves on his way to a win in the WISSOTA Modifieds. Adam Hensel led from start to finish to make his
third trip to victory lane in his WISSOTA Super Stock.
Mickey Nosser took home another clean sweep in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds
while Cory Crapser claimed his first win of the season in the WISSOTA Street Stocks.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds
kicked off the nights feature action with Joe Bablick and Shane Halopka filling out the
front row. Bablick shot out front at the
start but Halopka dove under him for the lead on lap two.
Bablick and Mickey Nosser then battled for second right behind Halopka. Nosser was able to clear Bablick on lap four and
moved to the high groove to take the lead over Halopka one lap later. Nosser was then able to pull out to a four car
length lead over the battle for second between Halopka and Bablick.
Dave Salzman held on to fourth but had Mark Alburtis tight on his
back bumper just ahead! of a good battle for sixth between Ken Heser and Randy Bargender. Nosser was able to hold about a five car length
lead through the closing laps and picked up his fourth Feature win of the season. Halopka had a strong car and came across the line
second after leading early in the race. Bablick
had another solid run in his rookie season taking home third. Salzman battled his way into fourth and fought off
several advances from Alburtis throughout the race.
Cory
Crapser drew the pole for the WISSOTA Street Stock Feature and lined up alongside Steve
Bangart. Crapser blasted his way out front to
lead the first lap while Bangart, Butch Kummer, Ryan Lindner, Roger Walker and Scott
Miller all ran nose to tail for second. Crapser
continued to hold a three car length lead over Kummer and Walker who continued their
struggle for the second spot. Walker
maneuvered the low line on Kummer and was able to complete the pass with six laps
remaining. Behind them Lindner, Bangart and
Chris Crapser had an exciting three car battle for fourth late in the race. Walker was able! to close to within a car length
of Crapser as the white flag flew. Crapser
ran a slightly higher groove than Walker which allowed him to dive under Crapser in turn
three and come out of turn four side by side at the finish.
Crapser led all 15 laps and claimed his first win of the season by a fender
coming across the line. Walker climbed from
mid pack to take second and hold on to the points lead.
Kummer topped off another strong run with a third place finish while Lindner
overcame a late race charge from Bangart to take the fourth position.
Adam Hensel won
last weeks race at Eagle Valley Speedway and looked to add yet another win to his resume
as he started from the pole alongside Jim Willner. Hensel
took the early lead at the start followed closely by Willner. Scott Johnson and Mark Stender ran side by side
for second, while Terry Gorst, Robby Bunkelman, Paul Erickson and Jerry Stanton put on a
great show battling for fifth. A six car
melee on the backstretch ended the night for several drivers including the fourth place
car of Stender. Hensel kept his lead after
the restart but Willner stayed within a car length waiting for an opening to make the
pass.
Gorst and Johnson continued to battle over third but had
Bunkelman, Erickson and Stanton closing in behind them.
Willner was able to stay within striking distance of Hensel but couldnt
pull alongside to make the pass. Hensel had
another impressive run as he took home his fourth Feature win of the year. Willner challenged for the lead for the entire 20
laps but to settle for runner-up money at the end of the night. Gorst worked his way from the middle of the field
to take third ahead of Scott Johnson and Paul Erickson.
Next up was the 20 lap WISSOTA
Modified Main Event. Mark Baxter and Dave
Baxter led the field to the green flag. Mark
Baxter drove his car low into turn one and came out of turn two with the lead ahead of
Scott Duvall and Dave Baxter. The fourth
spot, however, was still up in the air as
Jeff Spacek, Chris Oertel, and Mike Bauer all battled for the position. After a lap seven caution, Mark Baxter again had
to hold off the charge of Scott Duvall while Spacek and Oertel gave chase behind them. Duvall finally completed the pass on Mark Baxter
for the lead on lap 11. Spacek then
immediately moved up to challenge Mark Baxter for second and made the pass on the high
side with seven laps to go. Spacek had his
car hooked up on the outside birm and made the pass on Duval just before a lap 15 caution. Spacek held the lead ahead of Duvall, Oertel, and
Mark Baxter when the race was restarted.
Spacek looked to have the win wrapped up on the final lap coming
to the checkers, but Duvall got a great run down low coming out of turn four and took the
win by a bumper at the line. Chris Oertel
came back from a win two weeks ago to finish third. Mark
Baxter looked to have the car to beat after leading the first half of the race and came
away with a solid fourth place finish. Defending
point Champion Luke Shilling made a late race pass on Dave Baxter to round out the top
five.
The final race of the evening
was a ten- lap feature in the Two-Man Cruiser Division.
Schubert?Delis used the pole position to take the early lead ahead of
Lindner/Wilke, Ron/John Kunninger, and Davis/Fitzgerald.
Schubert/Delis got loose and spun on lap three giving the lead to
Lindner/Wilke. Lindner/Wilke would lead until
lap seven when Ron/John Kunninger and Davis/Fitzgerald reeled in the leaders and ran
three-wide for several jlaps before Davis/Fitgerald took over the lead. They would lead until the final lap when they got
together with Ron/John Kunninger and both cars spun allowing Dave/Steve Knauf to get by
for the win.
Dont
forget to make your way back to the track on Thursday Night July 1st, for the
WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series event. WISSOTA
Modifieds and Street Stocks will also be in action for this Special night of racing.
