July 22, 2005; Unity, WI. - Tradition
was very prevalent Friday night at Monster Hall Raceway, as many of the old timers came
back for a special recognition night. Memories of the good old times were talked
about in an interviewing session before the racing action. Some things change but
what remains the same is the commodore the drivers had and
still have today for each other. A special tribute was also made to the late John
Belle. Belle's car, which he raced many years ago, was also on display for the
admiring fans to see.
The racing action got started in the Pure Stock feature event.
When the cars came out on the high banked oval, Justin Lindner was on the front
row.
This week Lindner didn't have to weave his way around traffic, just had to keep the pedal
to floor and just go! Nate Hauge came on late to close on Lindner but could not
catch him. Lindner cruised to another feature win at Monster Hall Raceway.
Hauge came in second, Adam Soltis, third, John Kundinger fourth, and Adam Jochimson
came in fifth.
The next feature event was the WISSOTA Midwest Mods or the Shane Halopka
Jr. show, if you know racing at Monster Hall Raceway. Halopka won the feature by a
½ lap margin followed by Mickey Nosser, Davey Salzman Jr., Jim Poyda and Steve Bangert.
The WISSOTA Street Stock feature was battled to the end for positions two
through seven. Roger Walker took care of securing the lead early in the event, and
was never really challenged for the lead. The positioning behind Walker changed from
corner to corner around the track. Chris Crapser, Jared Lindner, Rugg Lindner, and
Cory Crapser all were charging hard, racing door to door, and driving cleverly for
position. Jared Loos and Buther Kummer battled ahead of Zach Kauth behind the lead
pack. With one lap to go, Jared Lindner spun to the infield off corner four and the race
continued with no harm done. Walker was the winner with Cory Crapser second, Rugg
Lindner third, Cory Crapser fourth, and Jared
Loos coming in fifth.
The most entertaining race of the night was the WISSOTA Super Stock
feature. Jim Willner and Robby Bunkelman took the green flag from the front row.
Willner quickly grabbed the lead and held the car down low, while Bunkelman tried the high
side trying to get bite out of the corner. Meanwhile Paul Erikson made his way up to
third when all of a sudden Erikson spun out without any help from the others.
Erikson was signaled back to the longest line. After that caution, Bunkelman took
advantage of a slight blunder by Willner coming off corner four, Willner slid up high just
slightly and Bunkelman drove hard down low and got around Willner. Terry Gorst
battled with Eric Olson and John Feirn for third position. Back further in the pack
here comes Erikson determined to get back to his third position. One lap to go and
Bunkelman had control of the lead with Willner comfortably in second, but after that
nobody would know until the
checker flag flew at the finish line. Who placed in what position? Well, Terry Gorst
was third, Erikson finished fourth, and Eric Olson came in fifth. It was Bunkelman's
second feature win at Monster Hall
Raceway.
The WISSOTA Modified came rolling out on the track with Ray Karl Jr. and
Paul Niznik on the pole. Last weeks feature winner, Luke Schilling started in the
second row, but Schilling was quickly out front after one lap into the feature. Not
far behind was Jed Moore making his way through the field from starting eighth place.
Scott Duvall charged through the field
from eleventh to fourth. A caution came out late into the feature, just after Moore
passed Schilling coming out of corner two, only to have to get back behind Schilling on
the restart. Schilling shot by the front stretch with Moore hot on his tail,
Moore went to the high side and Schilling down low, quite similar to last week's
event. The outcome was the same as last
week with Schilling holding off Moore for the win. Scott Duvall came in third and Mark
Baxter had a consistent run and finished fourth. Chris Oertel ran into some
unfortunate circumstances in the feature, but still managed a respectfully fifth place.
Next Friday at Monster Hall Raceway bring the kids early for fun and games
starting at 6:15pm. Prizes will be awarded. The gates open at 5:00pm and
racing action at 7:30 sharp.
