Champions Crowned at Monster Hall Raceway!
Submitted by: Chris Bunkelman

August 12, 2005; Unity, WI. - Anticipation filled the air at Monster Hall Raceway Friday, August 12.  This was the night the track points champions would be crowned.  Will Jim Willner hold on to the six point advantage over Paul Erikson
in the WISSOTA Super Stock division?  Can Chris Oertel catch Jed Moore in the WISSOTA Modified division?
Finally, what about the WISSOTA Street Stock division?  Cory Crapser  only held a three point advantage over
Roger Walker.  How was this all going to shake down on the last night of points racing at Monster Hall Raceway? The fans were treated to a very entertaining night of racing.

Photo Highlights

The WISSOTA Street Stock feature started with Roger Walker in the front row and Cory Crapser in the second row, setting up to be a great finish for the track points championship.  Walker jumped out to an early lead, looking strong. Rugg Lindner was right behind Walker putting on the pressure.  Crapser was busy battling with Jared Loos, Scott Miller, and Butch Kummer for the third position.  After a few cautions, Walker still led, but the rest of the field was now
bunched up behind him.  Lindner was ready to steal the feature win from Walker.   Walker had other ideas, as he needed the win to claim the track points championship at Monster Hall Raceway.  Lindner charged hard through corners three and four of the high banked oval, but came up a couple feet short of passing Walker at the finish line.   Scott Miller was third,
Butch Kummer fourth, and Cory Crapser was fifth, which was not enough to hold on to the points lead. Roger Walker is Monster Hall Raceway's season points champion.

The WISSOTA Modified feature winner was determined early in the event.   Scott Duvall drove hard into corner one on the high side around Mark Baxter and Paul Niznik,  who started in the front row ahead of Duvall.  Duvall shot out of corner two with the lead and never was challenged again.  Jeff Spacek powered his way through the field for a second place finish.  The race within the race was between Jed Moore and Chris Oertel for the points championship.  Moore was
leading the points coming into the night, but Oertel was only twelve points behind.   Moore kept Oertel in check and behind him most of the night until a caution came out with six laps to go.  Oertel  powered by Moore to get a position back, but it seemed to be a little too late, as Oertel could only manage one position ahead of   Moore.  Paul Niznik held on for a respectable third place finish followed by Oertel and Moore.  Moore wins the points championship at MHR in the WISSOTA Modified division.

Jim Willner needed to stay in front of Paul Erikson in the WISSOTA Superstock feature and the points Championship at MHR would be all but his.  When the cars rolled out onto the track, both Willner and Erikson had to start mid-pack in the field.  This would be Terry Gorst's night to celebrate also, as he picked up another feature win at MHR.  Gorst started
on the pole and held a low line around the track and would not sacrifice the lead.   Willner drove his car hard all night trying to get around Gorst, but had to settle for a second place finish.  That second place finish was good enough to claim the points championship at MHR, as Erikson finished seventh.  Randy Spacek was third, coming off of last week's feature win.  John Feirn was forth and Robby Bunkelman was fifth.  Willner is the points champion for the WISSOTA Super Stocks at MHR.

In the two other feature events at MHR, the points races were decided weeks ago.  The WISSOTA Midwest Mods point champion is Shane Halopka,jr..  The Pure stock champion is Justin Lindner.  Both of these drivers dominated their respective divisions at MHR this year.  Lindner dominated his feature event again on Friday night, winning handily, Nate Hauge second, Ron Kundinger third, Evan Quilling fourth, and Skyler Domine round out the top five.

The Mid-west Mod feature was won by Jim Poyda, as he held off Travis Halquist to get the win.  Rob Ryba was third, Davey Salzman,jr., fourth, and Tad Schaonoves fifth. Season Championship races will take place at Monster Hall Raceway. Come out and see who will take home the hardware.

Also remember, September Sizzler will happen Sunday, September  11th at MHR, Unity WI, with guaranteed cash purses.  This is a full WISSOTA National points show.  This is a early start time, pits open at 11am, cutoff 1:30pm, and racing starts at 2pm.
