Schilling Strikes on Last Lap for Monster Hall Mod Win!
Submitted by: Chris Bunkelman

July 15, 2005; Unity, WI. - Sometimes it takes a little luck or misfortunes of others to get a feature win at Monster Hall Raceway. Luke Schilling of Granton found that out Friday night in the WISSOTA Modified feature event.  Schilling
might have had the third best car in the feature. Robby Bunkelman looked to be the fastest as he passed Schilling with five laps left in the feature.

Photo Highlights

Jed Moore was right behind Bunkelman on the high cushion ready to claim the second position when something broke in the brakes on Bunkelman's car, turning Bunkelman sideways in front of Schilling.  No harm was
done to all involved except Bunkelman had to restart in the back of the field.

The excitement wasn't done yet.  On the restart with 3 laps to go, Schilling again stayed low and Jed Moore was high.  Moore shot around the second corner with momentum going down the backstretch.  Coming out of corner four Moore jumped the cushion and opened the door for Schilling to close the deal.  Schilling held off Moore on the final lap to claim his third feature win at Monster Hall Raceway.   Mike Bauer finished third, Paul Niznik fourth, and Paul Knauf fifth
respectfully.

Terry Gorst needed one more lap in the feature of the WISSOTA Super Stocks to pass Rodney Olson of Chippewa
Falls.  Gorst found the high groove, while Olson consistently ran the low groove.   Olson had built a five-car length lead before Gorst found the high side was the fastest way around the high oval at Monster Hall Raceway.  Gorst was joined by Robby Bunkelman on the high side but the flag flew with Olson holding on for his first win at Monster Hall Raceway in only his second appearance.  Gorst held on for second, Bunkelman finished third after starting in the back
because of an earlier caution.  Paul Erikson fourth, and Jim Willner was fifth.

A similar situation as the Super Stock feature occurred in the WISSOTA Street Stock feature.  Roger Walker was probably the fastest car, but ran out of laps before the checkered flag flew for the first time feature winner Chris Crapser.   Chris Crapser battled with his brother and national point's leader, Cory Crapser.   The Crapser boys finished one and two and Walker was third after starting from the rear of the field because of a caution between Walker and Loos.  Butch Kummer came on strong late in the race and was awarded a fourth place finish with Jim Marshall coming in fifth.

The Pure Stock portion of the show was highlighted by what happened in the heat races.  Again it was a family affair, as Justin Lindner and Luke Lindner got together down the backstretch.  Luke rolled over after climbing the wall in front of Justin Lindner.  Justin had no place to go, but over the top of Luke.  Justin teetered back and forth while sitting a top of Luke's card.  Bother drivers were OK and Justin made it back for the feature event in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks.
Ryan Olson of Chippewa Falls was another first time feature winner at Monster Hall in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks.  This was Olson's second appearance at the track.  The first time Olson was at Monster Hall he rolled his car while leading the race.  This time the outcome was much better.  Olson ran away from the field to get the win.   Justin Lindner remarkably
finished second despite the events from the heat race.  John Kundinger third, Nate Hauge fourth, Stephen Altergott was fifth.

Shane Halopka Jr. once again dominated the WISSOTA Midwest Mods. It took Halopka a bit longer to get to the front.  Cautions helped Halopka catch Steve Bangert and Jim Poyda who battled for the lead up front.  Halopka eventually blew by Bangert and Poyda checking out to claim another feature win at Monster Hall Raceway.

Despite the hot temperatures and lack of moisture the track conditions held up quite well.  Some of the drivers had mentioned that the track really came around for the feature events.  Next Friday July 22, the Old Timers will be honored.   Gates open at 5:00 pm with hot Laps at 6:30 pm.  Races at 7:30 pm sharp.
