Naeyaert, and Colwell
score second straight victories at Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway!
By Dave Panske
July 4, 1999; Seymour, WI - A very hot, humid end to the weekend brought an action packed night of racing Sunday at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway.
Dennis Young took charge of the IMCA Modified main at the start with Joel Schmit, Jerry Scharenbrock, Travis Spaulding and R.M. Van Pay right behind. Four of the top six were involved in two separate cautions on lap 6. Schmit, Van Pay, Neshek and Luke Roffers returned to the race at the rear, leaving Young in charge followed by Spaulding for the restart. Brian Mullen was now running third with Mike Mashl, Brad Rohloff and Scott Mullen behind. Another series of cautions on lap 12 made for a confusing finish. Brian Mullen and Rohloff both retired to the pit with Young, Spaulding and Mashl ready to fight it out.

The winner in a wild finish! Mike Mashl (#05), drove to the outside of Denny Young (#28) to take the lead on the final lap of the IMCA Modified event as the pair raced to the line for the white flag. The event then finished under caution with the white flag lap being the last completed lap and Mashl was credited with his second IMCA Modified feature victory of the 1999 season. |
On the final restart, Mashl got by Spaulding and drove to the inside of Young entering the Tri-oval, Mashl pulled off the pass to take the lead at the line with the white flag displayed. Just after that, the final caution dropped ending the race. IMCA scoring calls for the race to end once the white flag is displayed, going back to the last completed lap. This gave the win to Mashl, his second of the year here with Spaulding getting the runner-up finish and Young third. Scott Mullen made the top four with Scharenbrock and Mike Wedelstadt rounding out the top six.
The Street Stock main took the track next with Jamie Colwell grabbing the lead and held on til lap 5, when Lance Arenson pulled into the top spot. His lead lasted only one lap when last weeks winner, Jesse Colwell moved into first.
| Lance Arenson (#75) won his first Street Stock race of the season when crossed the line first in his heat race. Arenson would also post a strong finish in the feature race taking fifth. | ![]() |
On on lap 9, Brandon Czarapata took over second and on lap 11, point leader, Jason Czarapata pulled into third place. Caution appeared for the first time on lap 13 and the front trio ran an exciting race for the lead. Colwell held the lead but the Czarapata's were running side by side with Jason finally wrestling the runner up spot from Brandon on lap 16. He closed on the leader while Brandon dropped off the pace slightly when the water pump started to work lose. As the field headed to the white flag, the water pump broke off Brandon's car, filling the Tri oval with water. The leader had picked up the white flag, so when the caution appeared, the race was done with Colwell picking up his second straight division feature. It was the first time the division had a back to back winner since 1997.
Jason Czarapata took the runner up spot with Brandon getting the third place finish. Jared Siefert spun in the water on the track, but was scored as fourth because the caution was out for the water. Arenson took the fifth place finish with Chas Van Ooyen, Jr. rounding out the top six.
Doug Klemp took the lead for the first 2 laps of the WISSOTA Late Model contest before Doug Blashe took control on lap 3. Tom Naeyaert moved into second on lap 4 with T.M Miller, Gary Dhein, Mark Hessler and Troy Springbom behind. Miller and Springborn got together in the Tri oval on lap 6 for the first caution of the race, both were out for the duration.
Blashe led alter the restart, but only until lap 10 when Naeyaert took over. Once in front, Naeyaert pulled away and ran to his second straight feature win and third for the season here. Hessler took the runner up spot on lap 14 and chased Naeyaert to the finish. Tim Buhler moved into third, 3 laps from the finish and that puts him into the point lead. Blashe, Tim Bennett and Dhein rounded out the top six.
Benji LaCrosse led the opening lap of the IMCA Stock Car feature before Jon Wolf took over and brought Rod Snellenberger along into the runner up spot. Snellenberger hounded Wolf, finally getting to the inside in the Tri oval on lap 11 to take over the top spot.
Following a lap 14 caution, Shawn Wagner moved into the runner up spot and glued himself on Snellenberger until a final caution on lap 18 set up a 2 lap dash to the finish. Snellenberger maintained the lead picking up his third feature win of the year. Joe White nipped Wagner for the second place finish with Wagner taking third and Tim Van De Hei fourth. Tom Cole took fifth and Chad Wilcox rounded out the top Six.
