Four new winners this
season at Seymour!
By Dave Panske
May 2, 1999; Seymour, WI - The warm summer like weather made for a late summer black type track but the program clicked and fans were on their way home well before 10 PM. The action produced four new winners this season.
The Streets started their feature first with James Tebon and Jesse Colwell leaping from the first row at the start. The pair pulled away for the first half of the race when a spin slowed the race on lap 11, and bunched the field. Charlie Van Ooyen was now able to pull up on the leaders in third place followed by Chas Van Ooyen, Jr, Shannon Smith and Josh Massart. Tebon and Colwell pulled away again on the restart.
The lineup chaned behind before the final caution on lap 15 for debris. Chaz Van Ooyen, Jason Czarapata, Charlie Van Ooyen and Smith were behind for the final 5 lap sprint. Tebon held his front spot to the finish to collect his first career feature win here with Colwell holding off last weeks winner, Czarapata for the runner up spot. Jared Siefert came on strong over the final laps to nip Chas Van Ooyen at the line for the fourth place finish. Charlie Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.
The WISSOTA late model affair went non stop with T.M. Miller taking the lead at the drop of the green with Tim Buhler following behind. The pair pulled away and ran their own race while the rest of the pack doubled up behind.
Tom Naeyaert, Troy Springborn, Pete Parker and Terry Casey duked it out throughout the race. Miller held off a late race charge by Buhler to collect his first feature win here since August 5, 1990. Buhler was right behind in second. Springborn crusied in third followed by Naeyaert, Parker and Casey.
It took several tries to get the IMCA Stockers underway but, Sean Jerovetz took the top spot when the first lap was recorded. Pat Davister tucked behind with Shawn Wagner, Joe Kerkhoff, Brad Buckarma and Joe White. Davister was relentless with thc pressure on the leader lap after lap while the pair pulled ahead a bit from the field, until a caution on lap 15 bunched thc pack.
A lap 17 slow down set up a three lap dash with Jerovetz still on top followed by John Heinz, Larry Karcz, Davister, Wagner and White. On the restart, Karcz took to the outside line and passed into the lead. Heinz followed into second but could not shake Karcz as he drove to collect his second feature win here and first since May 11, 1997. Heinz was the runner-up followed by Jerovetz, White, Davister and Jerry Wilinski.
The IMCA Mods capped the night with R.M. Van Pay taking lead at the start followed by Jerry Scharenbrock, Randie Back, Jay Schraufnagel, and Jamie Schmidt. Travis Spaulding made his presence felt after 5 laps by moving into second. Scott Mullen moved into 5th when the first caution appeared on lap 9.
Three laps later, Brad Rohloff spun in the tri oval bringing out the final caution. Van Pay held the lead and took a car length margin over Brian Mullen to the finish line for his first feature win of the season. Brian Mullen was second followed by Mike Mashl, Spaulding, Scott Mullen, Chris Wilke and Scharenbrock. Next week, fans will vote for their Beast Appearing Car in each division.
Weekly Sunday night racing continues throughout the summer at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway. Racing gets underway at 6:30 p.m. every week.
