By Dave Panske
Special, 1999; Seymour, WI - N.E.W. DIRT is ready to bring the 1999 season to a close this saturday night with the running of the third annual Budweiser Nationals at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway. This event has a record of 143 cars that competed the first year and that record is expected to fall this week as calls from throughout the midwest have been fielded about the special. This big event will have the pit gates open at 2 PM with all races lined up by draw at sign in. Features will re-draw following their respective heats. All drivers must be signed in by 4 PM. Racing will start at 5 PM.
The IMCA Modifieds, WISSOTA Late Models, Street Stocks and IMCA Stock Cars will take part in the program. Ail division rules will apply, but, there will be NO claims in any division.
The Late Models will be running a full sanctioned event with national points being awarded.
So far in the series, there has not been a repeat winner in any division, and with the field expected, it will be a tough task to break that streak. The big four division event is headlined by the IMCA Modifieds with Pete Parker winning the inaugural event in 97 with track champion, R.M. Van Pay taking the top honors last year.
The Wissota Late Models make this run a final point race of the season with Brad Rohloff capturing the checker in 97 and Tim Buhler taking the win last year. The Street Stock division has always been tough here with Brian Drexler taking the win in 97 and Tom Coel adding his name to the Nationals win list last season. The IMCA Stock Cars also have two different winners with Tim Lemirande winning the first year and Danny Heinritz running to the win last year.
Both the Modified and Late Model features will pay $1,000 to the winner. Street Stock race for $400 and the Stock Cars for $500. There is a $40 guarantee against winnings in ALL divisions. All of the features will run 25 laps.
The competition for this event has offered fans some excellent racing to close out the season. The grandstand gates open at 3 PM.
