Blashe tops Late Models at Seymour!
By Dave Panske

May 9, 1999; Seymour, WI -   Two days of much needed rain caused problems for local track crews over the weekend and the soft track turned rough Sunday night at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway. The track did not slow anyone down however, and feature wins went to three new and one repeat driver.

Mike Klenz won his first career Seymour Tri Oval Raceway IMCA Modified feature on Sunday evening.  Klenz finished just ahead of current IMCA Modified point leader Mike Mashl 5999a.jpg (15826 bytes)

The IMCA Modifieds took the track first with Mike Klenz taking the lead at the start followed by Rick Mott, Dennis Young, Dean Maurer, R.M. Van Pay and Chris Derenne. The field stayed tight and three cautions slowed the race for spins. The final caution on lap 8 proved to be the final lap with the shortened time limit running out with Klenz earning his first career Tri Oval feature checker. The final tally saw Mike Mashl take second and hold onto the early season point lead followed by Scott Mullen, Brian Drexler, Brian Mullen and Derenne.

Jared Siefert won his first career Street Stock feature race Sunday evening at Seymour Tri Oval Raceway.

The Street Stocks were next to take the field with Justin Stuck taking charge followed by Mike Czarapata, Jamie Colwell, Jeff Vlies and Bob White. The lead changed several times with Vlies trying the front on lap 3. Dareren Otto took over on lap 5, Czarapata on lap 6 and Jared Siefort on lap 7. Czarapata and Seifert battled for four laps swapping the lead with Siefert in front for good on lap 10. Siefert collected his first career Tri Oval feature win with current point leader, Jason Czarapata taking second on the final lap. Chas Van Ooyen setteled for third place followed by Bob Bernier, Mike Czarapata and James Tebon.

Wissota Late Model pilot, Doug Blashe took the lead at the start of the feature with Terry Anvelink, Greg Dhein, Pete Parker and T.M. Miller behind.

A lone caution on lap 4 for debris closed the field but Blashe took off on the restart taking Miller along with him. The pair pulled ahead with Blashe maintaining the top spot. Miller dropped off the pace at the mid point of the race, leaving Blasho alone to run to his first feature win here since August 14, 1994. Parker held off point leader, Troy Springborn for the runner up finish with Tim Buhler, Dhein and Doug Klemp rounding out the top six.

Rookie Street Stock driver, David Hoerning of Appleton won the first Consolation race to earn his first career checkered flag.

IMCA Stockers closed the program with a shortened 15 lap hard fought race. After a couple tries to get underway, Pat Davister took the lead for the opening lap with Tim Van De Hei taking over on lap 2. Rod Snellenberger charged into the top spot on the next lap with contact in the tri oval sidlining Snellenberger and putting Van De Hei in the pit. Last weeks winner, Larry Karcz was right there to settle into the lead with Shawn Wagner, Jerry Wilinski, Davister and Joe White right behind. Karcz pulled ahead and drove to his second straight divisiosn feature win while Wilinski won the battle for the runner-up finish over Wagner and Davister. Dave Bouche and White rounded out the top 6.
