Springborn tops Lates, Maurer best in Mods at Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway!

May 30, 1999; Seymour, WI - A perfect night for racing was on hand at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway Sunday night and the slick, but smooth track made for a fast program.

The Street Stocks started the features off with Jesse Colwell leading the opening lap, but spinning in the tri oval turn on lap two, giving the lead over to James Tebon. Following a lap 3 restart, Jared Siefert moved into second followed by Brandon Czarapata, Darren Otto, Bob White and Jason Czarapata.

After a lap 6 restart, Siefert was able to slip to the inside of Tebon to take over the lead, but Tebon returned the move 3 laps later to regain the lead. Jason and Brandon Czarapata stayed with the leaders throughout the race and Tebon looked like he would be able to hold off Siefert until late in the race.

On lap 19, Siefert again slipped to the inside and took over the top spot, and with only one lap left, Tebon settled for the runner up finish, following Slefert to his second feature win of the season. Jason holds the point lead with the third place finish with Brandon fourth. Mike Czarapata made it a family affair by placing fifth and Colwell came back through the field to round out the top six.

Tom Naeyaert sat on the pole for the WISSOTA Late Model main and set the pace for the first half of the race, followed by Doug Blashe. These two pulled away early, thanks to a mix up in the tri oval on lap 3, that slowed the rest of the field. On lap 4, point leader, Troy Springborn, moved into third and started to close the gap on the leaders.

He was with in a couple car lengths when a caution helped bunch the field on lap 12. It took several attempts to restart as all the cars were looking to get a jump on one another. Springbom finally took the lead for good one lap after the restart and held off Pete Parker to win his first ever Tri Oval feature event. Mark Hessler of Menomonie made a rare appearance and ran to a strong third place finish. Blashe ended up in fourth forlowed by Tim Buhler and Naeyaert in the top six.

A field of 21 cars took the green for the IMCA Stock Car feature with Mike Franzke taking the early lead only to spin out of the tri oval before the first lap was recorded to give the lead to Chad Bartel. Bartet led the way until Sean Jerovetz took over on lap 6.

Tim Van De Hei took over the top spot next on lap 13 and held to top spot the rest of the way for his first feature win of the season, Jerovetz, Jerry Wilinski, Bartel, Larry Karcz, Jr. and Rod Snellenberger stayed right with the leader for the rest of the race making for a competitive event. Wilinski was able to wrestled the runner up spot from Jerovetz over the final four laps with Bartel taking the fourth place finish, Karcz and Snellenberger rounded out the top six.

The IMCA Modified main ran with one caution early, on lap 4 and the top seven cars battling to decide the finish throughout the race. Joel Schmit lead the opening 2 laps, before Dean Maurer took the lead for the next two laps.

Brad Rohloff charged into the top spot on lap 5 with Maurer, Brian Mullen, R.M. Van Pay, Mike Mashl, and Jerry Scharenbrock all fell right behind. Maurer was the brave soul in the front pack, staying outside the leader. Rohloff had his hands full watching the two cars and the track ahead but held the lead until lap 14 when Maurer was again able to get into the top spot. Over the final 5 laps, the positions changed quickly behind Maurer which allowed him to inch ahead. Maurer collected his first feature win of the season with Mashl also using the outside line to take the runner up finish. Mullen slipped by Rohloff and held back Van Pay for the third place finish, and Rohloff took fifth. Brian Drexler was the last of the top six finishers
