Naeyaert tops Late Models at Seymour!
By Dave Panske
June 20, 1999; Seymour, WI - Finally, after several weeks of weird weather, the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway enjoyed a nice night for racing Sunday night.
The Wissota late models took the track first for their feature with Terry Anvelink taking charge at the start. Tom Naeyaert ducked behind on lap 2 and one tap later found an opening to the front and once in the lead, took off to hide from the rest of the field.

Former 3-time Late Model champion, Tom Naeyaert (#9) became the first WISSOTA Late Model driver to win two features at Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway this season. |
The former three time track champion, looking as strong as ever here, drove away to his second feature win of the season. Anvelink had his hands full battling with Tim Buhler for the first half of the race but once Buhler moved into second, he pulled away in pursuit of Naeyaert, but was not able to close enough to mount any challenge on the leader. Pete Parker took fourth with Doug Blashe fifth and Doug Klemp sixth.
Chad Wilcox led a strong IMCA Stock Car feature for the first lap with Rookie contender, Tom Coel leading the next 3 laps before Rod Snellenberger took his shot at the top spot and led three laps before contact got him off the track in turn one enough to drop back 7th in the lineup, and turning the lead back over to Coel.
After a tap 10 restert, Jerry Wilinski hooked up on the outside and moved into the lead, bringing newlywed, Shawn Wagner along into 2nd and Tim Van De Hei into 3rd. The top three put on quite a show all with Snellenberger picking his way back to the front. There was a lot of three and four wide and nose to tail racing over the final six laps.
Wilinski hooked up on the high side and Snellenberger challenged for the lead again on the inside. At the finish line, Snellenberger was able to edge Wilinski for his third feature win of the season. Joe White came through to place third with Coel running to his best finish of the year in fourth. Wagner took fifth and Dylan Heilmann, running his first race of the year, rounded out the top six.
Joel Schmit sat on the pole of the IMCA Modified main and took charge at the start followed by Jamie Schmidt, Dennis Young, Dean Muarer, R.M. Van Pay and Randie Back. During a lap 6 caution, the grandstand track lights suddenly went off, causing a 15 minute delay for cool down and to re lite.

When the race restarted, Maurer had moved into the runner up spot with Van Pay, Brian Mullen and Travis Spaulding making their way to the front. The front-runners battled for the rest of the 20 lap event, and like their stock car counterparts, did plenty of side by side and nose to tail racing.
On lap 16, Mullen was able to wrestle the top spot away from Maurer, and he held off Van Pay to win his first home town track feature of the season. Van Pay, looking for feature win #100, took the runner up finish with Schmit completing his run in third. Spaulding took fourth with Maurer settling for fifth and Mike Mashl sixth.
Rookie, David Hoerning, led the way for the opening lap of the Street Stock main, but out of the tri- oval on the second lap, he looped his car in front of the field. With 19 cars bearing down, the field went to the high side and in the jumble, a 7 car pile up was the result, right on the finish line. John LeMere got the worst of the wreck with a possible lower beck injury.

Mike Czarapata (#33) avoided a big accident in the Street Stock main event and brought his car home first to earn his first feature win of the 1999 season on the challenging third-mile tri-oval. |
Jason Czarapata ended up on the front wall with the right front on the grandstand side. Once the mess was sorted out, Czarapata thrilled the crowd by firing his car up and driving to the pit for a quick check before rejoining the field for the restart. Brandon Czarapata took over the lead for the restart followed by Bobby Rezek, Jamie Colwell, Jason Stuck, Mike Czarapata and Jamie Schmidt. Two more cautions on laps 5 and 6, forced an early end to the race by track curfew with Czarapata eardng his first feature win of the season. Colwell took the runner up spot followed by Rezek, Schmidt, Mike Czarapata and Darren Otto in sixth.
