Mullen continues win
skein at Seymour! July 30, 2000; Seymour, WI - Another beautiful night for racing at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway with beautiful track to match that helped four drivers run to repeat feature wins on Seymour Beverage Night at the races.
The Street Stock division started the feature portion of the program with Rich Kyllonen taking charge followed by James Van Rixel, Kevin Charles, Phil Hiles, Travis Van Straten, Darci Czarapata and Shannon Smith. A caution on the second lap for a multi car spin on the back chute regrouped the field for a 19 lap non stop finish. Kyllonen continued to set the pace with Van Straten hooking up on the outside and moving to the front. It took until lap 6 when Van Straten took over the top spot and started to pull the field. Jamie Colwell moved into the runner up spot 2 laps later and set out after the leader Kyllonen, point leader, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jesse Colwell and Bob Bernier were involved in a race long battle for the third spot. Jamie Colwell was able to close the gap on the leader, but even with lapped traffic, ran out of laps to mount a challenge for the lead. Van Straten picked up his third feature win of the season with Colwell a couple car lengths back in second. Jesse Colwell won the battle for the third place finish with Van Ooyen taking fourth and Kyllonen fifth. Van Rixel came back to round out the top six. The WlSSOTA Late Model feature ran off 20 straight laps with Troy Springborn starting on the pole with the redraw lineup and running away for his second straight division feature win, and fourth feature victory of the season. The battle was for second, third and fourth. Terry Anvelink took second on the start, and had to contend with Pete Parker throughout the contest but held off a last lap charge to hold on to the runner up finish. Terry Casey challenged the pair on the outside for the entire race end settled for fourth. Tom Naeyaert and Tim Buhler round out the top six.
The IMCA Stock Car division was the spotlight division running a 25 lap contest with a double first place payoff awaiting the winner. Chad Wilcox pulled into the lead on the start followed by Brad Buckarma, Travis Van Straten, Scott Karcz, Jason Czarapata, and Brandon Czarapata. Brandon hooked up early and moved to the front, taking over the runner up spot on lap 7 with John Heinz also moving up from the middle of the pack into third one lap later. The first caution appeared on lap 9 for debris. Before the next caution on lap 12, Czarapata moved into the lead and point leader, Tim Van De Hei moved up into third place. After the final restart, Van De Hei was able to pull into the lead and Shawn Wagner moved high to take over third place. Wagner moved into the runner up spot and after 2 laps was right behind the leader. On the next lap, Wagner moved alongside, and for the final 9 laps, the pair ran side by side, swapping the lead several times. Van de Hei was able to make the inside line out of the tri oval work a little better and was able to hold off Wagner to collect his fourth straight division feature and fifth win for the season, as well as increase his point lead. Wagner was alongside for second place, the same finishing order as the previous week. Jason Czarapata was third with Dean Wilcox, his first time running this season, was fourth. Jeremy Christians came from the back of the lineup to place fifth with Jori Wolf rounding out the top six. Van De Hei's win moves him into a tie with Charlie Kroll as the only drivers to win four straight division features. Kroll ran to his record in 1995 and also holds the season total with 8 victories.
Jereme Hedrick grabbed the lead at the start of the IMCA Modified nightcap and pulled the field for the first half of the race. Dan Deau, Bob Zegers, Jared Siefert, Mike Klenz and Brad Rohloff were running for position behind. Point leader, Brian Mullen, started mid pack and quickly moved to the front, taking over the runner up spot on lap 6. It took him six more laps to run down the leader and then use the inside line to take over the top spot on lap 13. Rohloff, R.M. Van Pay and Jerry Muenster followed Mullen through traffic and were behind Hedrick when the first caution appeared on lap 16. Several more cautions over the final 4 laps, kept the field bunched. The final three laps were finally run through with Mullen leading the way. Rohloff made a strong run at Mullen on the outside but could not pull off the upset. Mullen held on to win his sixth straight feature and increased his point lead to 41 marks. Rohloff was a very close second with Siefert sneaking through to take third over Doug Mahlik. Klenz took fifth and Mike Mashl rounded out the top six. Mullen is now one win away from tying his personal best 7 wins in a season and moving closer to the all time record of 8 wins set by Kurt Jordan in 1994 and tied by R.M. Van Pay in 1998. Next week will be Coke night at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway and they will present the IMCA Modified Spotlight night with the mods running a 25 lap main event with $700 to the winner.
