Siefert's first win
stops Mullen's streak in Mods,
August 6, 2000; Seymour, WI - Questionable weather throughout the day, broke, for a beautiful night for Coca Cola nite at the races Sunday at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway. The IMCA Modifieds took to the track first and were introduced as part of the Spotlight senes division. When racing began, Jereme Hedrick took charge and pulled away from the field with Eddie Muenster settling into the runner up spot followed by Jared Siefert, Mike Kudick, Mike Klenz and Brad Rohloff. Siefert moved into second on lap 4 but Hedrick had already opened up a six length lead. Point leader, Brian Mullen, looking for a 7th straight feature win, moved from the middle of the pack into third on lap 10, and had a gap to close on Siefert, who was still chasing down the leader. The caution did not appear in the contest until lap 17. This erased Hedrick's lead and put Siefert and Mullen right behind for the restart. Siefert was able to get to the inside of Hedrick on the restart and moved into the lead. It took Mullen a couple laps to get going and had to pull back into the runner up spot on lap 22. The caution appeared 1 lap later for the final time and bunched the pack again for a 2 lap dash to the finish.
Siefert held the lead and Mullen pulled alongside a couple times. Siefert was hooked and was able to hold off Mullen to end the streak at 6 straight by Mullen who was right behind at the finish. It was the first career feature win for Siefert in the Mod here at the Tri-Oval and the Spotlight win was worth $700. Hedrick continues to improve as he gets used to the new car and finished in third. Eddie Muenster held off dad, Jerry, for fourth with Mike Mashl rounding out the top six.
Frank Paul set the pace in the Street Stock main for the opening 5 circuits before Bob Bernier was able to slip by into the top spot as point leader, Chaz Van Ooyen, pulled into the runner up spot at the same time and would not let Bernier get away. Van Ooyen worked on the leader and finally wrestled the top spot away on lap 14. Only 2 laps later, the lone caution of the race appeared and bunched the field for a 4 lap dash to the finish. Jamie Colwell had just moved into second prior to the caution, but had to visit pit lane during the caution with an overheating problem. On the restart, brother, Jamie, overtook Bernier for the runner up spot and pulled up on Van Ooyen. Van Ooyen controlled the final laps to increase his point lead by winning his second feature of the season. Jesse Colwell took the runner up finish with Bernier holding onto third. Jeff Treml won the battle to place fourth. Travis Van Straten, coming from last place ended up in fifth place with Jamie Van Ooyen rounding out the top six.
The WISSOTA Late Model feature took the green with Pete Parker and Troy Springborn sharing the front row. Parker pulled into the lead at the start and had Springborn as a shadow during the entire non-stop race. Terry Casey, debuting a new car ran in third the entire race. Tom Naeyaert wound up in fourth place with Jim Rychtik running to his best finish of the year in fifth. Tim Buhler rounded out the top six. The win was the 4th of the season for Parker and in his career here he has 101 feature race victories.
Mike Franzke took control of the IMCA Stock Car main at the start followed by Chad Wilcox, Brandon Czarapata, Dave Andrews, and Scott Karcz. The first of several cautions slowed the pace on lap 5. Wilcox brought the field around and sped into the top spot. Czarapata moved into second and took his turn at the front 2 laps later. Wilcox was running strong and was able retake the lead for a lap on lap 9, before caution slowed the race again. This time, it was Jason Czarapata making a move on the leader and pulled into the top spot. Point leader, Tim Van De Hei moved into second and 2 laps later was in front of the tight pack. Van De Hei survived a long caution on lap 16, during which the limit had expired and set up a 2 laps dash for the winner. Van De Hei had to battle with Jason Czarapata for the final distance and was able to hold on to win his 5th straight feature and 6th overall for the season here. Jeremy Christians, won the consy to make the main and took to the finish to work through the tight traffic. The final 2 laps went non stop with Van De Hei getting the win, followed right behind by Czarapata. Christians moved into the third position and Shawn Wagner powered into the top four. Jon Wolf took fifth and Tom Coel rounded out the top six. Next Sunday will be a big night at the Tri-Oval with Wisconsin Fans For Auto Racing holding their annual Trophy Night for all four divisions.
