Van De Hei Stock Car
streak to six! August 13, 2000; Seymour, WI - Over three inches of rain late in the week with half of that on Saturday night, made for a very sticky track Sunday night at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway. Add to that a bright full moon and very humid air it made for an interesting night on Green Bay Motorsports night. Wisconsin Fans For Auto Racing also presented the trophies to the feature winners.
The IMCA Stock Cars started the feature racing with Travis Van Straten taking the lead from the front row and immediately pulled away from the pack. Chad Bartel, Chad Wilcox, Brandon Czarapata, Jason Czarapata, Tom Coel and Jerry Wilinski were battling behind. Van Straten stretched his lead through the first half to a 1/4 lap with the battle heating up for the runner up spot. Brandon and Jason Czarapata were running second and third with Wilinski holding fourth. Point leader, Tim Van De Hei, had worked into fifth and then started to work on the lead pack. The caution flew for the first time in the race on lap 14, and during the re line, Van Straten suddenly pulled out of the line up and onto pit lane, turning the top spot over to Brandon Czarapata. Van De Hei was now running in the second spot with Jason Czarapata, Wilinski and Rod Snellenberger behind. Snellenberger spun in turn two to bring out the final caution on lap 16 and set up a four lap shoot out to the finish. Jason Czarapata flew into the lead on the restart on the outside and Brandon held the runner up spot. Van De Hei was right behind. The Czarapata cousins, both division rookies looking for their first career feature wins, were running side by side with Van De Hei, looking for a record sixth straight win, was looking for an opening to the front. As the field came out of the th oval to take the white flag, Van De Hei found a hole between the leaders and the trio crossed the line three wide at the line. Van De Hei was able to thread the needle and emerge as the leader in turn one. Jason and Brandon remained side by side and were right behind Van De Hei at the finish line. Van De Hei collected his sixth straight and seventh feature win of the year with Jason credited with second and Brandon third. Wilinski took the fourth spot with Jay Matthias and Jeremy Christians, both coming from the rear of the field, rounding out the top six.
The Modifieds were next and had to survive numerous cautions on their way to a time limit shortened event. Jeremie Hedrick started on the front row and pulled into the lead on the start. After several cautions, Brad Rohloff was running in the second spot after three laps and pressured the leader, taking over the top spot when Herdrick pulled out of the race with a broken ball joint on lap 8. The final caution appeared one lap later with Rohloff, Scott Mullen, Joel Schmit, R.M. Van Pay, Travis Spaulding, Brian Mullen and Jerry Muenster behind. The field ran four non stop laps to close the race with Rohloff winning his second feature of the season. Scoff Mullen took the runner up finish with Spaulding running strong in third. Brian Mullen slipped into fourth with Schmit and Van Pay rounding out the top six, completing 12 laps. With the track curfew looming, the time limit for the final two features was cut back with the street stocks next. Rich Kyllonen took the lead at the start with Marc Marcille, Dean Kellner, Rick Naparalla, Jesse Colwell and Charlie Van Ooyen behind. Kellner pulled into the top spot after a lap 2 restart with Colwell pulling into the runner up spot. Travis Van Straten and point leader, Chaz Van Ooyen were now in the top four. Van Ooyen moved into the second spot on lap 8, and challenged Kellner to the finish with Kellner collecting his first feature win here since August 14, 1994. Van Ooyen added to his point lead by taking second with Colwell third, Van Straten fourth, Kyllonen took fifth and Bob White, Jr rounding out the top six.
The WISSOTA Late Models took the track with nine minutes to curfew and clicked off their 20 lap feature with a minute to spare with an exciting non stop feature. Terry Anvelink edged pole sitter and point leader, Troy Springborn, into the lead with Terry Casey and Tim Buhler dropping into the to four after one lap. Casey powered into the runner up spot on lap 4 and hassled Anvelink for the rest of the race.
Springborn challenged for the spot a couple times but Casey would fight off each attempt and hold the position. Casey pulled behind the leader again with a couple laps left and on tap 19, coming in for the white flag, Casey dipped inside Anvelink in the tri oval and took the top spot at the line. Casey held off Anvelink to record his first tri-oval feature win of the year with Anvelink in second. Springborn took third with Buhler fourth. Pete Parker, after a meeting with the turn 2 wall in the heat, rebuilt the front end, starting the main in the back, and finished fifth. Track and WISSOTA Rookie contender, Dean Maurer, rounded out the top six. Next Sunday will be a big night with Potawatomi Bingo and Casino night along with 106.7 fm "The Eagle" as sponsors for the night.
