Parker powers to Late
Model victory at Seymour! August 20, 2000; Seymour, WI - A cool but nice Sunday night greeted fans to the Potawatomi Bingo and Casino and 106.7 The Eagle races at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway. Drivers shared trophies and extra payoff for their efforts with one repeat and three new feature winners for the night.
The WISSOTA Late Models took the track first and clicked off 20 non stop laps. By luck of the draw, Potawatomi sponsored, Pete Parker started on the pole and led the race flag to flag, with Tom Naeyaert pressuring in second the entire race. Troy Springborn, Dean Maurer and Terry Anvelink battled together for third with Springborn the point leader, taking the finishing spot. Maurer ran a strong race for fourth with Anvelink taking fifth and Jim Rychtik rounding out the top six.
The IMCA Stock Cars were next with Rick Mahlberg leading the opening 2 circuits before Jay Matthias took control after a restart on lap 3. Brandon Czarapata moved into second on lap 5 and just a single lap later slipped inside to take the lead an started to pull away. Matthias, Jason Czarapata, Jerry Wilinski and Dave Bouche ran bunched together until a final caution for a spin on lap 11. Brandon continued to set the pace again and pulled away by a couple lengths leaving the battle for second. Matthias, Jason Czarapata, Wilinski, Bouche and Shawn Wagner continued the battle to the finish with Jason Czarapata ending up in the runner up spot followed by Wilinski and Matthias. Bouche and Wagner rounded out the top six. Point leader, Tim Van De Hei, running for a 7th straight feature ended up finishing 13th after being involved in several incidents during the race. He still controls the point chase with just one point night remaining for the division this season. Jeremie Hedrick took the lead at the start of the Modified contest followed by Darren Otto, Mike Kudick, Bill Lemmens, Jared Siefert and Kyle Fredrick. A couple cautions early on laps 2 and 3 bunched the pack before a long run to the finish.
Hedrick continued in the lead and pulled away from the field with Kudick taking second and also distanced himself from the pack. The battle for third was tight the entire race with Lemmens, Eddie Muenster, Dennis Young, Siefert and Scott Mullen involved. R.M. Van Pay joined the pack by the half way point. Point leader, Brian Mullen, was also running to the front before a blown engine sidelined him on lap 9. The field took the white flag, but a tri oval spin ended the race on that lap with Hedrick claiming his first ever tri oval feature victory. Kudick ended his strongest run of the year in second. Lemmens was the third place finisher, but failed to come to the claim area, moving Young into third place, Muenster fourth, Van Pay fifth and Scott Mullen in sixth. Brian Mullen still holds a 491 - 457 point advantage over Van Pay with 2 point nights remaining for the mods this season.
Shannon Guillet took the lead in the Street Stock contest with Charlie Van Ooyen, Shawn Van Ooyen, David Hoerning, Marc Marcille and Bob Bernier behind. Spins on laps 5 and 9 slowed the pace twice with an 11 lap string to the finish after the lap 9 restart. Guillet still led the way with Bernier taking over the runner up spot. Jamie Colwell, point leader, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jesse Colwell, Hoerning and Charlie Van Ooyen were behind. Guillet and Bernier pulled away a bit to the finish with the battle for third tight to the finish. Guillet took the checker but was disqualified following the race for refusing an engine claim. The win was awarded to Bernier, his first here since September 6th, 1998. Jamie Colwell, Chaz Van Ooyen, Jesse Colwell, Travis Van Straten and Charlie Van Ooyen made up the top six finishers. Next week will be the annual N.E.W. Hobby Model Car Contest with awards to all participants. It will also be the final Spotlight Series race featuring the Street Stock division.
