winners at Seymour pad win totals May 7, 2000; Seymour, WI - A perfect night for short track racing Sunday at Subway of Seymour night at the Seymour Tri- Oval Raceway. Four new faces emerged from the feature races with their first wins of the year here.
The Street Stocks were first on the mark tonight with Travis Van Straten grabbing the lead at the onset. Tom White took up the runner up spot followed by Brandon Czarapata, James Tebon, Bob White, Jr. and Jamie Colwell. The pack stayed tight for the early going with the first of two cautions out on lap 8. A couple laps later the caution appeared for the final time and it was all out to the finish. Van Straten was still in command, but the field shuffled behind with Tebon, Jamie Colwell, Jesse Colwell, Bob White, Chez Van Ooyen and Bob Bernier behind. From second back, the group stayed tight, fighting for position, This allowed Van Straten to open a lead and run away to his first feature win of the season and his first here since July 12, 1998. Younger brother, Jamie edged Jesse in the battle for the runner up spot, Van Ooyen took the fourth spot followed by Bob White and Dean Kellner.
Pete Parker squeezed through the front row cars on the opening lap and took charge of the WISSOTA Late model contest. Terry Anvelink moved into second place by the 3rd lap, Troy Spfingborn was running third. With Tim Buhler and Dean Maurer right behind. Parker was able to pull ahead a bit, but Anvelink remained within a couple car lengths throughout the race. A lone caution bunched the field on lap 11, and it was the same up front after the restart. Parker walked off with his first Tri-Oval feature this season, but it ran his career total to 98. Anvelink shadowed Parker to the finish line with Springborn settling for third. Terry Casey came from the rear of the field for the fourth place finish with Tom Naeyaert and Maurer rounding out the top six.
Eric VanIten took the lead on the opening lap of the IMCA Stock Car main followed by Benji LaCrosse, Dave Andrews, Josh Massart, John Heinz and Brandon Czarapata. Spins on laps 3 and 4 kept the pack bunched. Following the lap 4 restart, LaCrosse was able to work into the top spot putting Vanlten back one. Hot off his first career feature win the night before in Sturgeon Bay, LaCrosse was in top form, holding his line around the unique 1/3 mile oval. Jon Wolf moved into the runner up spot on lap 6 with Heinz, Rod Snellenberger, Czarapata and Larry Karcz, Jr in pursuit. The green stretch slowed again when the caution appeared on lap 12. A couple more quick cautions brought the time limit into play and on the final restart on lap 13, the race went 2 final laps, with LaCrosse getting the job done, winning his first career tri-oval main event. Wolf lost the runner up finish on a last lap pass by Tim Van De Hei with VanIten holding on to take fourth. Rookie contender, Czarapata, crossed the line in fifth and White rounded out the top six. The IMCA Mods hit the track with the track curfew in sight, but the veteran field clicked off all the laps with only one caution.
Jerry Muenster took the lead for the opening 2 laps before Brad Rohloff eased into the top spot on lap 3. R.M. Van Pay moved to the front and into second on lap 6. Brian Mullen moved into fourth one lap later and the front runners started to pull from the field. Van Pay started to open a lead when Muenster moved back up to battle with Rohloff on lap 12. Muenster pulled of the pass on lap 14, and then ran alone to the finish line in second, following Van Pay by several lengths. Rohloff led the battle for third with Brian Mullan and brother, Scott, Travis Spaulding, Mike Klenz, and Art Siefert in line behind. Rohloff held the line to the finish with Brian Mullan, Scott Mullen, Spaulding and Klenz rounding out the top six. The win was Van Pay's first here this season and doubled his weekend after winning Friday night. The win also boosted his all time total to 48. Next week will be Green and Gold Concrete night.
