Hot racing on a cold night at Seymour Tri-Oval!
By Dave Panske

May 14, 2000; Seymour, WI - The cold, windy weather caused problems early on Sunday night, but a bit of last minute changes made for a good night of racing at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway, on Green and Gold Concrete night.

Two divisions recorded their third different feature winners and the other two saw their first repeat winners of the young season.

Brad Rohloff (#03) earned his first IMCA Modified feature victory of the season at Seymour.

IMCA Modifieds took to the track first with Doug Mahlik taking the early lead for the first 3 laps before Mike Klenz powered by. A couple laps later, the lone caution appeared when Mahlik mount stalled. Klenz resumed the lead position on the restart followed by Dennis Young, Brad Rohloff, Brian Mullen, Mike Wedelstadt and Scott Mullen.

By the mid point of the race, Rohloff had moved inside of Young for the runner up spot, and 2 laps later found the inside line again to take over the lead. Brian Mullen moved into the lead battle and shadowed the leader for the rest of the way, looking for that opening to get by. Rohloff was hugging the inside and despite a couple slips late in the race, was able to slam the door on Mullen each time to win his first feature of the season. Brian Mullen, Klenz and Scott Mullen made up the top 4 finishers. Young and R.M. Van Pay made up the top six.

Former Street Stock front runner Brandon Czarapata (#33) earned his first IMCA Stock car checkered at Seymour Tri-Oval this evening.  The victory in his heat race was his first triumph in the class where he is a rookie this season. 51400c.jpg (13736 bytes)

The Streets were on the grid next with Jeff Treml holding the top spot for the first lap before Lance Arneson came to the front and for the next 9 laps, had to fight off several anxious drivers all trying to get closed to the front. Chaz Van Ooyen led the charge followed by David Hoerning and James Tebon. Tebon was hooked up early and was making a bid for the runner up spot when he pulled off the track when a lowed ball joint broke on his car. Jamie Colwell moved into third and two laps later was in the front and watching the race in the mirror.

Colwell pulled away form the field and looked to have everything wall in hand when he suddenly pulled off the track in turn two on lap 16, with a sick engine. Arenson again found himself in the top spot with Jesse Colwell right behind, and five laps remaining. Colwell worked on the leader, finally able to wrestle the top spot away on lap 18. Colwell stayed in front and despite several attempts by Van Ooyen, rolled on to with his first Tri Oval feature Arenson completed his best run ever and finished third. Bob Bernier came back from an early race spin to finish fourth, with Hoerning taking fifth and Dean Kellner sixth.

51400a.jpg (16083 bytes) A visit to victory lane!  Tim Buhler (#24) who narrowly missed the track title in the WISSOTA Late Model division last year, makde his first trip to the winner's circle at Seymour this evening.  In addition to winning his heat, Buhler recorded a strong second place run in the main.

Dean Maurer powered into the lead of the WISSOTA Late Model contest for the first lap before Pete Parker stormed into the front bringing Terry Casey along into second.   Parker's run at the front only lasted a couple laps when a fiat tire caused him to spin in turn two on lap 6. Troy Springborn inherited the lead and with the green out to the finish, was able to maintain a 3 car length lead over Tim Buhler at the finish line. Terry Anvelink was third followed by Casey and Maurer.

John Heinz (#57) became the first driver this season to score multiple feature wins at Seymour as he topped the IMCA Stock Cars.

The Night cap was the IMCA Stock Cars with Jerry Wilinski taking the top spot at the start, followed by Jon Wolf, Brad Buckarma and Shawn Wagner. John Heinz moved into the runner up spot on lap 4 and was all over the leader trying to find an opening. A lone caution on lap 16 set up a four lap dash with Wilinski still holding the top spot. Heinz was second with Rod Snellenberger making his way to the front, Wagner, Wolf and Larry Karcz, Jr were now right behind.

On the restart, Heinz slipped by on the inside of the leader and Snellenberger followed for the runner up spot. Heinz was pressured by Snellenberger for the rest of the way. But held the top spot for his second win of the year. Snellenberger took the runner up spot with Wilinski and Wolf next in line. Larry Karcz, Jr. and Tim Van De Hei rounded out the top finishers.
