Parker scores last lap victory
for 99th career LM feature at Seymour!

By Dave Panske

May 21, 2000; Seymour, WI - A late afternoon drizzle gave way to brief sunshine as the heat races rolled for a decent evening Sunday at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway.

IMCA Stock Cars rolled to their feature first with Travis Van Straten taking the lead followed by Eric VanIten, Tony Bouche, Shawn Wagner, Benji LaCrosse and Chad Wilcox. LaCrosse moved into the top spot on lap 4, and one lap later, Jason Czarapata pulled into the top spot. The lead changed again 2 laps later when John Heinz took control and started to pull away from the field.

The first caution on lap 15 bunched the field, and it took a couple tries to get the race restarted. Finally under green, Heinz continued to set the pace with LaCrosse, Jerry Wilinski, VanIten, Jeremy Christians and Brandon Czarapata right behind. The order stayed the same to the finish with Heinz winning his second straight and third feature of the season.

It was a good night for veteran racer Jerry Muenster (#4) as he wheeled his way to the winner's circle after taking a win in his IMCA Modified heat.  Muenster later came back and led the first half of the feature event. Muenster would finish in the fourth position during the feature race. 52100a.jpg (14702 bytes)

Jerry Muenster took charge of the Modified main at the start and pulled away in the early laps. R.M. Van Pay and Brian Mullen quickly moved into the top three and closed in on the leader. The first caution appeared on lap 10 and bunched the pack. Van Pay was able to take the outside line on the restart, and Mullen took to the inside in a three wide dash into the turn. Van Pay came out the leader with Mullen in second, Muenster third. Brad Rohloff joined the lead pack with Doug Mahlik.

A final spin on lap 14 kept the field tight and set up a thrilling run to the finish. The top five cars put on a show, swapping the lead several times, but it was Van Pay that took the lead last and held on to win his second feature of the season. Mullen edged Rohloff for the runner-up spot with Muenster taking fourth Mahlik was fifth and Travis Spaulding rounded out the top six.

Jamie Colwell (#68) won his first career Tri-Oval feature topping the Street Stocks on Sunday evening!

Lance Arneson led the opening lap of the Street Stock feature with James Tebon taking over the top spot on lap 2. Tebon pulled away from the pack a bit while Arneson contended with Fred Davister and Jamie Colwell for the runner up spot. Colwell moved into second one lap before the caution appeared on lap 6. Several more quick cautions for spins slowed the pace, and when racing resumed, Tebon was still in control, but Colwell moved alongside to challenge and after 2 laps took the lead. Chaz Van Ooyen moved into third and the race finished that way with Colwell winning his first career feature here with Tebon, Van Ooyen, Davister, Travis Van Straten and point leader, Jesse Colwell, in a borrowed car, rounding out the top six.

The WISSOTA Late Models closed the evening with point leader, Troy Springborn threading through the front row into the lead at the start, and pulled away from the field. Terry Anvelink, Pete Parker, Jim Rychtik, Dean Maurer and Tom Naeyaert filled in behind. They ran 17 laps unchanged when a spin brought out the lone caution with 3 laps remaining. Springborn lost his huge lead with Anvelink, Parker and Naeyaert behind. On the restart, Parker took to the outside and moved into the runner-up spot and pulled up on the leader. On the final lap, Parker again went to the outside and swept into the lead on the back chute and held off Springborn to collect his second feature of the season. Springborn took second with Anvelink, Naeyaert, Tim Buhler and Maurer rounding out the top six. The win was Parker's 99th career late model feature win here at Seymour since the club took over operations in 1984.

Budweiser with the Bud Girls will be on hand next week signing posters an hour before race time and presenting trophies during the night will sponsor next week. Several Bud sponsored cars will also be on display. All this in the middle of the Memorial Day weekend.
