Mullen scores third straight Mod victory!

June 25, 2000; Seymour, WI - Finally, a perfect night for racing in northeastern Wisconsin. Sunny, warm, smooth track and exciting racing gave a good crowd a Sunday night to remember on George's Hustle Inn night at the Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway.

Tim Buhler (#24) was all smiles after recording his first Late Model feature victory at the Seymour Tri-Oval since August 26, 1998.

The WISSOTA Late Models kicked off the feature racing with a caution on the opening lap. With the restart, the field clicked off 20 straight laps with Tom Naeyaert taking the lead followed by Tim Buhler, Troy Springborn, Mike Hansel, Terry Anvelink, Pete Parker and Dean Maurer. The top three pulled away from the group and on lap 6, Buhler was able to get inside and take over the top spot. Once in front, Buhler continued to stretch a lead over Naeyaert and Springborn and drove on to win his first division feature here since August 26, 1998.

Naeyaert and Springborn completed the top three. Anvelink, Parker and Terry Casey rounded out the top six.

Joe White took control of the IMCA Stock Car main at the start and set the pace for the first 7 laps before Brandon Czarapata moved into the top spot bringing Jerry Wilinski, Tim Van De Hei and Larry Karcz, Jr along. The front 7 cars ran tight for the top spot and Van De Hei pulled into the top spot on lap 11 with Karcz and Wilinski side by side for several laps running for second. Jay Matthias, Benji LaCrosse and Tom Coel were under a blanket for third place.

Brad Buckarma (#6) was the winner of the IMCA Stock Car consolation race this evening.

A couple cautions late in the race kept the full field tight with Wilinski and Karcz hounding the leader. Van De Hei held off the charges to pick up his second feature flag of the season with Wilinski edging Karcz for the runner up spot. John Heinz moved into the fourth place finish on the final lap with Shawn Wagner taking fifth. Matthias rounded out the top six.

Several cautions slowed the IMCA Modified event and used up a good portion of the time limit over the first half of the feature. But, once the field settled down, a complete feature was run.

Joel Schmit led the first 3 laps, but Jerry Muenster pulled into the lead following a restart on lap 4. Muenster pulled away over the next few laps before another caution bunched up the field on lap 7. Mike Klenz, Mike Mashl, Brian Mullen, Scott Mullen and R.M. Van Pay were right behind for the restart, and Brian Mullen moved outside and in 2 laps wrestled the lead away from Muenster.

Mullen was able to pull away a bit leaving Muenster to battle for the runner up spot. A late race caution on lap 17 set up a 3 lap dash to the finish. Mullen maintained the lead and drove to his third straight feature win. Muenster held off Van Pay for the second place finish with Scott Mullen taking his first top four finish this season. Klenz took fifth and Joe White drove a mod for the first time this season at Seymour to round out the top six.

Brandon Czarapata took control of the Street Stock night cap with Darci Czarapata, Jeff Treml, Marc Marcille, Brian Harrison and Davis Hoerning right behind. Travis Van Straten hooked up on the outside and moved to the front, taking over second on lap 7. Van Straten had the lead erased by a spin on lap 9, and on lap 11, used the outside line again to take over the top spot.

A final caution on lap 14 bunched the pack for a final sprint to the finish. Van Straten was able to hold off the challenge and drove to his second feature win of the season with Czarapata taking the runner up spot. Point leader, Jamie Colwell came from the back of the lineup to place third with Chaz Van Ooyen taking fourth. Dean Kellner and Bob White rounded out the top six positions.

Next week, Green Bay Motorsports will sponsor the nights action and the WISSOTA Late Model division will be the highlight division, running a special $1000 to win feature to top the program. Over the next four races, each division will be in the spotlight. There will be NO increase in admission for these special events.
