Springborn continues Seymour win skein!
By Dave Panske

July 29, 2001; Seymour, WI -  A field of 105 cars on hand used the fast, smooth tri oval to put on an excellent program Sunday night at Seymour on Budweiser night. A pair of drivers found victory lane for the first time as feature winners and the other two were repeat winners for the fourth time.

Darren Otto (#27) broke a dry spell as he won won his first Street Stock feature at Seymour since Aug 15, 1999.

The Streets started out the feature portion of the program with Bob White slipping into the top spot at the start with Tim Cayemberg, Darren Otto, Charlie Van Ooyen and David Charles behind. A flat tire took Cayemberg out of the hunt early, allowing Otto to move up and into the lead on lap 5. Otto started to build on a lead while the race for the runner up spot heated up. White had his hands full as Van Ooyen, Charles, point leader, Jamie Colwell, David Hoerning and Dean Kellner bunched up behind.

A caution on lap 14 closed up the entire field but Otto was able to pull away on the restart and drove to his first feature at the Tri Oval since Aug 15, 1999. White held off all challengers to take the runner up finish, Van Ooyen took third with Colwell fourth. Kellner picked up fifth with Jason Czarapata rounding out the top six in his first run in the Street Stock this season.

Mike Franzke led the opening lap of the Stock Car main with Kyle Fredrick taking over the top spot on the second circuit. Jay Matthias moved into the runner up spot behind Fredrick and pressured the leader until lap 8, when he was able to slip into the lead. Brandon Czarapata moved into second on lap 11 and began to close on the leader.

Lapped traffic came into play over the final laps as Czarapata tried to work to the inside of the leader. Matthias was able to hold back each attempt and took the white flag while running up behind a group of five cars.

The group did move wide to open the inside line for the leader and out of the tri-oval for the final time, Czarapata tried to sneak inside, but traction was at a premium down low and he finished ½ a length back with Matthias winning his first career tri oval feature. Fredrick held back Travis Van Straten, Jerry Wilinski and Tim Van De Hei to finish third in the non stop feature event.

Following an opening lap caution, the Wissota Late Models clicked off a non stop feature once again. Nick Anvelink led the opening laps with Tim Bennett, Mark Mitchell, Mike Babino and Doug Klemp behind. Point leader, Troy Springborn started to move to the front, passing Pete Parker for fourth on lap 3 and moving into the runner up spot by lap 6. It took 2 more laps to move into the top spot, and once in command, drove off to win his third straight and fourth feature of the season. Parker moved into the second spot on lap 11 and Terry Casey moved into third on lap 14 but neither driver could close on the leader.

Babino ran to his best finish of the season taking a strong fourth place finish. Doug Blashe, making his first run of the season here, took fifth, and Anvelink rounded out the top six.

Another opening lap mix up shuffled the Modified line up with Mike Kudick setting the pace for the first pair of laps before point leader, Brian Mullen, moved ahead and took off to hide from the field. Scott Mullen, came from the rear of the field to move into the runner up spot on lap 5 and started to close on his brother. A caution on lap 9 brought the field together and point leader, R.M. Van Pay, was now running in third, right with the leaders.

With the green out for the final time, Brian Mullen pulled away again to hold a several length lead over Scott to the finish line. Van Pay finished third. Russ Huxford picked up his best finish of the season holding on for the top four finish. Bill Lemmens and Tim Lemirande rounded out the top six spots.
