August 19, 2001; Seymour, WI - Despite the heavy rains on Saturday throughout the area, track crews sopped up the water during the day and an exciting racing program clicked off Sunday night at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway.
The IMCA Stock Cars started the features off with Dylan Heilmann leading the opening circuit before Kyle Fredrick pulled into the lead with Travis Van Straten, Brandon Czarapata, Jay Matthias, Jerry Wilinski and Shawn Wagner following through. Van Straten was able to sneak by to lead 2 laps, 6 and 7, but Fredrick found the opening low the next time around to take over the lead again. Czarapata moved into second and pulled up on the leader. Czarapata pressured Fredrick for the next few laps before Fredrick was able to open up a slight lead. Over the last few laps, Fredrick continued a steady pace and collected his first career feature win. Czarapata took the runner up finish with point leader, Jeremy Christians taking third. Benji LaCrosse slipped by Van Straten for fourth on the final lap with Wagner rounding out the top six. Jim Rychtik led the opening 2 laps of the WISSOTA Late Model main with Tim Buhler moving into the top spot on lap 3. Once in front, Buhler took off and ran from the pack as the field battled hard for position. Rychtik held second until the lone caution of the event flew on lap 12 and bunched the pack on Buhler. Buhler took off again on the restart with Randy Markwardt moving into then runner up spot. Buhler collected his first Tri Oval feature win of the season with Markwardt taking second in only his third run of the season here. Rychtik took a strong third holding off Terry Casey, Nick Anvelink was fifth and Pete Parker was sixth. Brad Buckarma led the first 3 laps of the mod feature before a four car spin slowed the race for the first time on lap 3. Buckarma pulled out of line for a visit to the pit lane which turned the top spot over to Rod Snellenberger, with Brad Rohloff, Bill Lemmens, Brian Mullen, Scott Mullen and R.M. Van Pay behind. Lemmens moved into the runner up spot and was hounding Snellenberger. The pair came out of the tri oval on lap 7 and made contact. Neither driver lifted and bounced into the infield before scrambling to regain control. The red appeared and both were sent to the pit, which turned the lead over to Rohloff. Brian Mullen, Van Pay, Scott Mullen and Travis Spaulding were behind. After the restart, Rohloff was able to open a slight lead as the battle for the runner up spot was intense behind, with the pack running two and three wide. On lap 10, Brian Mullen was the outside guy out of the tri oval, and caught the front wall with the r rear of his car. He stayed in the heat of the battle for the runner up spot until the r-rear wheel broke off in turn two on lap 18, setting up a 2 lap dash. Rohloff had his hands full on the restart when Van Pay dove low and Scott Mullen pulled outside after taking the white flag. The squeeze play was on and Rohloff got pinched off with Van Pay coming through to take his second feature win of the season. Scott Mullen, tied with Van Pay for the point lead entering tonight, finished third to be one mark behind entering next weeks final point night. Spaulding took third with Sean Jerovetz finishing fourth. Jared Siefert and Chad Nelson rounded out the top 6. Joe Van Ooyen took the lead from the outside pole of the Street feature for the first four laps before Rick Naparalla took over. Jesse Colwell, Tim Cayemberg, David Hoerning and Mike Coel moved behind the leader by lap 8 before a debris caution on lap 11 bunched the field. Two lap later, the caution was out for the final time and set up a 7 lap spring to the finish. Naparalla continued to lead the way after the final restart, with Coel moving into the runner up spot point leader Jamie Colwell moved into third with brother Jesse still in fourth. And Jeff Treml fifth. Coel slipped into the lead on lap 15 and held on to win his first ever Tri Oval feature. Naparella challenged to the finish and held off Jamie Colwell and Treml for his best finish ever, taking second. Cayemberg and Charlie Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.
