May 30, 2001; Seymour, WI - With both the Langlade County Speedway and Seymour Tri-oval Raceway forced to cancel their Forest County Potawatomi Community Hit The Jackpot Late Model Series shows over the Memorial Day Weekend drivers will now reap the benefits of having a string of six consecutive WISSOTA late model special events contested at five tracks beginning July 1. The Hit The Jackpot races have been reset for Sunday night, July 1st, at the Seymour Tri-oval Raceway and Friday night, July 6th at the Langlade County Speedway. Both programs will pay the feature winner $2,000 with all starters collecting a minimum of $350. The two events will play bookends to a four day tour of WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series races which begins on Monday night, July 2nd at the Sunnyview Speedzone Raceway in Oshkosh. Events at the Monster Hall Raceway in Unity, Langlade County Speedway, and Shawano Speedway follow. "That's a ton of racing for some good money," said Tim Buhler, a driver who finished fourth at Shawano in the opening Potawatomi race. "It'll really be a grind on everyone but when you have the car and the pay is there you have to go. All of the shows have good payoffs and that's what we need. I think the drivers will really support this deal." The "WISSOTA Late Model Speedweek" will resemble a mini Summernationals tour in which drivers chase United Midwestern Promoters' races across the middle part of America. "The travel isn't quite as bad with this and you'll have the chance to get back home and do some major repairs," Pete Parker said when comparing these six events to that of the Summernationals. "When you run in July with UMP you do a good amount of traveling between shows. This is better that way and actually these races pay as well through the middle and better at the bottom than a Summernationals race does." Because of the way the races stack up as many as 40 drivers could enter any of the given shows. A field of 38 late models checked in for the opening Hit The Jackpot Series event. "I think this is a big bonus for both the Challenge Series and the Hit The Jackpot Series," said Chris Stepan, WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series director. "I think we'll add a few more guys to the roster because of the added shows." The opening Challenge Series event drew 40 cars to the Proctor Speedway before rains shut the program down.
