"Hit The Jackpot" series ready to roll into Seymour! By Bob Schafer

June 13, 2001; Seymour, WI -  The Seymour Tri-oval Raceway isn't the fastest race track in the world.  Nor is it the most intimidating.  But, when push comes to shove it will be the famed 1/3-mile clay speedway that will go a long way in determining the 2001 Potawatomi Community Hit The Jackpot Late Model Series champion.

Following a pair of rainouts over Memorial Day Weekend the series is ready to kick back into action on Sunday night, July 1st with a stop at Seymour.  Located at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds the unique shape to the speedway lends to some interesting racing.

"Seymour is just a tough place to get used to and a tough place to like but once you do it enough and figure out a way to get around the tri-oval you really learn to love it," said Dean Maurer, a feature winner at the track earlier this season.  "The track's tough on guys that come there and race for the first time.   It's going to make the Jackpot races very interesting."

The championship for the Hit The Jackpot Series will be determined over six events held at three separate tracks.  A driver's best five point nights will count toward the title leaving one of the shows at Seymour, a track completely different than the Shawano Speedway and Langlade County Speedway.

Duane Mahder currently leads the series point standings after his convincing victory at Shawano on May 26th.  A field of 38 late models checked in for that event.  A car count of 30 or more is expected at Seymour.

"The fans were in for a treat could we have got the show in on Memorial Day," said NEW Dirt Vice President Bob Zegers.  "We had about 10 outside drivers that were going to compete.  Those guys have basically never raced at Seymour before.  It would have been very interesting."

Opening night track conditions at Seymour, back in May, were outstanding.   Heavy rains have forced several rainouts at the facility making the show even more of a question mark for the drivers.

"We really haven't had a chance to get out there and run at Seymour because of the weather," said Troy Springborn.  "The local guys have an advantage but it will be a little less because of the way the season has gone there."

The Potawatomi Convenience Store 30 will include heat races, a consolation and feature for the WISSOTA late model division along with a full program in the IMCA modified and IMCA stock car classes along with Seymour's always entertaining street stocks.

The night's late model feature winner will collect $2,000 while the IMCA modified feature will pay $750 to the top finisher.  Added money in all classes is expected to bring out a record number of cars.

Action on July 1st is slated to kick off at 6:30 pm.  The track is located on Highway 55 in Seymour.  For more information contact the series office at (920) 788-1285.
