June 24, 2001; Seymour, WI - Finally, a perfect combination on a Sunday night at the Seymour Tri Oval Raceway, weather, crowd, car count and track conditions all added up to an exciting night with McDonalds of Seymour and 104.3 WECB radio on hand as new sponsors.
The IMCA Stock Cars opened the feature portion of tonights program with Brandon Czarapata grabbing the lead at the start followed by Mike Franzke, Sean Jerovetz, Tim Van De Hei and Greg Gretz. Czarapata pulled away from the field right away and Van De Hei wasted no time pulling into the runner up spot by lap 4. Van De Hei slowly reeled in the leader and with five laps left was right on the rear bumper. Back further, Gretz, Jay Matthias and Larry Karcz, Jr were battling for position and Jason Czarapata, John Heinz and Benji LaCrosse were together behind them. At the front, Van De Hei waited until the white flag appeared and ducked to the inside of the leader in turn one. Out of turn two, Van De Hei pulled ahead and collected his first Tri Oval feature win of the year. Czarapata took the second place finish with Gretz running to his career best finish here in third. Matthias was 4th, Karcz 5th and Jason Czarapata in 6th. The Wissota Late Models were next with Pete Parker slipping into the lead at the start and drove away from the field until a pair of mid race cautions bunched the pack. On the final restart, Parker was still leading the way with Tom Naeyaert right behind followed by Tom Buhler, Troy Springborn, Dean Maurer and Terry Casey. The running order remained the same for the final 7 laps with Parker picking up his first Tri Oval feature win of the year. It took three tries to get the Modified main underway and Jamie Schmidt took command at the start with Dennis Young, Bill Lemmens, Joel Schmit, R.M. Van Pay and Brian Mullen right behind. Jamie continued to set the pace despite 2 cautions over the first half of the contest. Mullen moved into the runner up spot and had the lead gap closed by the lap 9 caution. It took 2 laps after the restart for Mullen to find a slight opening to the inside and took over the lead. Once in front, Mullen pulled away from the pack until a debris caution slowed the race for the final time on lap 17, leaving a 3 lap dash to the finish. Mullen held the lead to the finish for his second feature win of the season here with Van Pay getting by Schmidt for second. Jared Siefert also made a last lap run and took the third place finish. Mike Wedelstadt placed fifth and Lemmens rounded out the top six finishers. Darren Otto took the Street Stock feature lead from the pole at the start and pulled into a lead over the first 10 laps. Jeff Treml moved into the runner up spot on lap 8 and started to close in on the leader. A lone caution appeared in the race on lap 14 for a spin with Otto still in command. On the restart, Treml took the outside line out of turn 2 and took over the lead. Otto stayed right behind and had to battle with Jamie Colwell over the final 5 laps. Treml came through to collect his first career feature checker with Colwell nipping Otto at the line for the second place finish. Otto took third. Jesse Colwell nipped Darci Czarapata at the finish line for the fourth place finish. Lance Arneson rounded out the top six. Both the winner, Treml and second place Jamie Colwell were claimed following the race and accepted the claim with the swap. So the finish stood as scored. Next Sunday night, the rain delayed Potawatomi Hit the Jackpot series will take to the Tri Oval featuring the four divisions that make up the weekly programs here. The program is set to highlight the WISSOTA Late Models with all four running for the biggest purse ever at Seymour. Gates open at 5 PM with racing getting underway at 6:30.
