May 20, 2001; Seymour, WI - A new track and club record will be set at the Seymour Tri-oval Raceway on Sunday night, May 27th, when the Potawatomi Community Hit The Jackpot Late Model Series competes as over 30 WISSOTA late models are expected. The Potawatomi Convenience Store 30 will highlight a full night of racing which will also include IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars, and street stocks. Pit gates will open at 4:30 pm with the first green flag to fall at 6:30 pm. NEW Dirt, the long-time lease holder for stock car racing at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds, has, since its inception, featured late model racing. Club officials have indicated that the highest number of entries in their history is 27 back when the track was still a ½-mile oval. Since shortening the surface to a 1/3-mile a car count high of 24 was achieved. The night's main event will pay the winner $2,000 with all starters guaranteed $350. The show will be the third in six for the Hit The Jackpot Late Model Series which boasts a $13,000 point fund. In recent years Pete Parker, Tom Naeyaert, Troy Springborn, Terry Casey, and Tim Buhler have been at the forefront of the division at Seymour. The track's unique shape makes for some interesting racing at times and will definitely challenge those that are not track regulars. "I really don't know what to expect from the guys that haven't raced at Seymour," said NEW Dirt Vice President Bob Zegers. "I know that the track is real tough to set-up for. Some guys have it down, some don't. Those that don't generally don't come back too many times. This will be a stern test for many drivers." Parker has won over 100 feature events on the Tri-oval alone. He has been a staunch supporter of activities at the track and may be the prohibitive favorite for this show. "Seymour's a tough race track but once you get it down it's fun to drive on," Parker said. "I know a lot of guys that come in and try it and then you don't see them again. Either you love it or you hate it. There really is no middle ground to it. It's been good to me and our team. That's the bottom line." Drivers from three states and Canada are expected to compete in the Memorial Day Weekend special. Action for the Hit The Jackpot Series begins on Friday night, May 25th at the Langlade County Speedway and then moves to the Shawano Speedway the next night.
