Seymour slates April 29th practice date!
By Joe Verdegan

April 6, 2001; Seymour, WI -  NEW DIRT officials have announced a Sunday afternoon, April 29 practice date at the third-mile, clay tri-oval at Seymour Tri-Oval Raceway, located at the Outagamie County Fairgrounds.

The pit area opens at 11 a.m., with practice running from noon to five p.m. Spectator admission is free to this event while a nominal $10.00 fee will be charged at the pit gate. The practice is open to any and all divisions. One does not have to be a member of NEW DIRT to partake in the practice session.

During the practice session no more than two cars will be let out on the track at a time. "It will give the drivers plenty of time to give their cars a good shakedown before opening day," said club Vice President Bob Zegers.

During the winter months more than 200 loads of stone-free clay has been added to the track surface. Other improvements include moving the flagstand from the start/finish line closer to turn one. "The start/finish line will remain where it is," Zegers pointed out. "Last year we'd be starting the races as only the first row or two of cars made it around the tri-oval. Now we won't start the race until a bulk of the field has already made it around the bend."

In other moves Green Bay's Art Siefert was named chief starter for the season. In addition to running his IMCA modified on occasion, Siefert served as a flagman on the pavement at 141 Speedway (Francis Creek) and Wisconsin International Raceway (Kaukauna).

The four weekly divisions in 2001 will be WISSOTA late models, IMCA modifieds, IMCA stock cars and street stocks. This season the optional weight rule for the IMCA modifieds will be enforced Sunday nights at Seymour.

The season opens Sunday night, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. For more information call 920 494 5884 or 920 655 7154. The track's website in www.racingonline.com/seymour.
