Paces Tri-Oval Lates! Siefert Scores In Mods!
By Dave Panske |
July
21, 2002; Seymour, WI - After a week off for the fair, the
return of racing action to the Seymour Tri Oval was greeted with the hottest temps of the
year and the threat of storms later in the evening. N.E.W. DIRT beat the odds and complete
the full show well before the storms hit the area. All five divisions produced first time
feature winners this season.
The IMCA Stocks took to the track first with Chaz Van Ooyen taking charge at the
start followed by Kyle Fredrick, Brandon Czarapata, Scott Karcz, Jesse Cullen and Larry
Karcz, Jr. Czarapata moved into the runner up spot on lap 5 and then to the inside of the
leader. The pair ran side by side with Czarapata holding a slight edge on each lap, before
the caution slowed the race on lap 10 for a three car spin in the tri oval. Czarapata
maintained the lead on the restart, but Benji LaCrosse made a power move to the outside
and inched into the lead on lap 12.
Czarapata held the inside line and the lead and drove off with his first Tri Oval
feature win since August 20, 2000. LaCrosse took second despite heavy pressure from point
leader, Jeremy Christians, several laps from the end. Kyle Fredrick took third, his best
run of the year. Tim Van De Hei, involved in the lap 10 caution, came from the back of the
field over the final 10 laps and placed fourth. Christians was fifth and Van Ooyen rounded
out the top six places.
The Street were next up with Brian Koch taking the initial lead over David Hoerning, Rick
Naparella, Darci Czarapata and Charlie Van Ooyen. Naparella moved into the top spot on lap
6, and Lance Arneson moved into second place one lap later. Arneson made the move to the
lead on lap 10, and then checked out of the field for the rest of the non-stop race.
Naparella, Hoerning and Czarapata stayed close to the finish with the finish order the
same. Dean Kellner was fifth and Van Ooyen rounded out the top six.
The win for Arneson was his first ever at the Tri Oval. Hoerning was taken out of the
finish for not reporting directly to the claim area after the race. This moved Mike Coel
into sixth. Coel also took over the season point lead as both point leader Jeremy Wiitala
and second place Jeff Treml had problems early in the feature and finish well back in the
field.
Bob Zegers took the lead in the Modified main for the first 2 circuits before Jared
Siefert took the outside line and powered into the lead on lap 3. Once in front. Siefert
stayed high and never looked back, collecting his first Tri-Oval feature win of the year.
Point leader, Brian Mullen, moved into the runner up spot on lap 4 , and R.M. Van Pay took
third place. The pair set out after Siefert, and despite traffic near the end of the
non-stop race, could not close in to make any challenge. Travis Spaulding ended a race
long battle to place fourth with Dennis Young in fifth and Jeremy Jacobs taking sixth.
Mullen gained a little breathing room in the point chase as Jay Schraufnagel had a cut
tire take him out of the race early. Van Pay was able to move into second place in the
standings, 17 behind Mullen, Schraufnagel is four back in third.
The WISSOTA Late Models were last on the card with Terry Casey moving from the second row
to the lead at the start and immediately hooked up on the outside. Six time track champ,
Pete Parker, moved by A.J. Diemel on lap 4 for second and using a steady pace tight to the
inside, erased Caseys lead and moved into the top spot on lap 8. Parker continued
his run on the inside and pulled away from the field while Diemel, Randy Markwardt and Tim
Buhler moved up to challenge Casey for second.
A lone caution with five laps left, erased Parkers lead, but the veteran continued the
pace on the restart to collect his 106th career Seymour feature win. Diemel took the
runner up spot from Casey after the restart, but could not catch Parker. Point leader,
Troy Springborn, moved into third on lap 17. It looked like Casey would take fourth until
the final lap, when he was taken around by Dan Gracyalny in the Tri Oval.
Gracy was DQd and given a 2 week suspension. Casey was given his spot back in the
finishing order. Tom Naeyaert was fifth and Tim Buhler was sixth.
Troy Wilcox led the 4 Banger feature until lap 10, when Steve Schaumberg took over and
drove to his first feature win on the year.
